Please help my baby

Hi Everyone

For those of you who don't know about my other posts, my precious baby Smokie (8 year old tabby) has been sick and injured.

What started as an allergic reaction to a new brand of litter has become worse. His paws are getting worse, he isn't eating, drinking, or going to the litter box.

You touch him and he cries, and I wonder if it is just something that is wrong and not treatable (i.e tumor) I can't even pick him up without him crying, and hissing- that is not my baby!!!

Some background:

I brought a new kitten home (Bandit) and that is when smokie got sick- however bandit is a healthy, brat kitty lol-- was adopted from a shelter, checked out- all shots etc

I am worried about my baby Smokie, he is my precious child and I seriously just feel he is dying before my eyes - I can't handle it.

He is on antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection (caused by the litter change) - and he has no fever, and his infection seems to be better- but the paws are still hurting, sore, and they seem infected (im attaching a picture- what you can see of it)

I fear he is going to be dying quickly, or I will have to have him put out of his misery-- as a last resort, and I feel it is coming quickly as he is in contstant pain it seems and im unable to indespensibly pay vet bills.

Started on his one paw, and now is on all 4-- He was declawed as a kitten way before I got him (i dont agree with decawling-)

any help would be appreciated !! THANKS

Was the paw issues there when you took Smokie to the vet? I am not sure if this can be taken care of over the internet and you will need to take him to the vet. It just maybe something related to the litter since they dig or a reaction to the antibiotic. Give your vet a call ASAP and then you will get an estimate. SOmetimes vets work with you and there's also something called Care Credit Card (I have one) to help pay vet costs in a structured and prolonged way. Hope you can work something out soon.
Tons of for Smokie.

I'd either go to a different vet for a second opinion, call and/or go to an ER vet now, or maybe both. He needs help now, especially if he's not eating or using the box.

Yes the vet thought it was "botched declawing job", until I explained abot him being declawed 7+ years ago--

So the secondary thoght was him biting his feet from the old litter itching

I will wait it ot and I am disabled, unable to drive and the closest ER vet is dallas (2 hours)

Did the vet give you any instructions on how to treat his paws other than immediately changing the litter?

Any antibiotics for treating infection from chewing on his paws?

Any steroids for the inflammation?

Any pain killers?

As getting to an emergency vet is not an option, if you have any way to get to a vet as soon as possible in the morning, I would consider doing this - but get a second opinion. I wouldn't advise going to the same vet practice.

for your baby.

I would immediately get him to the vet, (neighbors, friend, whomever drive you), change the litter either back to what it was before, or to plain clay litter, don't use any floor cleaners or sprays on any counters he walks on and separate the two cats.

Also while you are out, pick up a syringe to hand feed him blended cat food.

My baby is DOING much better today-- will now answer questions.

Yes we went to the vet, other than changing the litter the vet gave him Augmentin (for cats), SAME forumla for humans just lower doses...

So he is doing so much better today- running, jumping, eating, playing and bratting lol--------

CP offered me a coupon for more free litter lol....

That's great. Just FYI if a kitty has sore paws and won't use the litter box it may be because the litter hurts his paws. In that case you can use shredded newspaper or paper towels in the litter box.

I'm curious if the vet gave him Augmentin now (called Clavamox for cats) what was he getting before for the upper respiratory infection? Usually Clavamox is the standard treatment for that.

I'm glad he's doing better though. Pain can cause all sorts of other problems.

Was just Penicillin to start with since it was lower price, now Clavamox
