My poor baby Maia has Ringworm
ohno:! It seems to be a mild case, if there is such, but for the life of me I can't figure out how she got it. My primary concern is getting rid of it and treating her (our) environment properly. We do have a topical fungal spray and cleanser we use once a day for her from our doc. If anyone has advice from experience I would really appreciate the help. I have already looked it up online and have had the crap scared out of me
!
I have a rooftop garden which I keep very clean and she never digs in any of my potted plants. Even my vet said not to restrict her from exercise out there, but this is an area of question for me, after the wettest summer recorded for NYC. She never has contact with other animals, she is a one kitty woman owner
.
I am assuming I have to wash all her blankets a few times during her treatment. Will regular Tide work or do I have to treat the wash? What about carpeting, do I need to replace all?
If anyone has any advice from experience, I would love u to share and help me help my baby get better

What product are you using for the cat?

The only cleaning product that really kills ringworm in the environment is bleach. If you can wash the bedding with bleach this is preferable to just detergent.

Tips for cleaning:
-Use a 1:10 bleach:water solution on any clean surface that can be bleached
-Wash all fabrics in bleach if they can handle it
-Vacuum everything that can't be bleached, then either throw out the bags or if it is bagless, clean the canister with bleach. This will help get rid of any hair or dander that is infected with ringworm.

Ringworm spores can live in the environment for a long time so you will have to keep up the cleaning to make sure you get rid of it all. Ringworm also does not like sunlight so if you can't wash/bleach something it may help to put it out in the sun.

Thank you! I am currently bleaching my rooftop surface, moving my plants. I am going to wash her roosting area blankets with Tide with bleach? Is that potent enough? Should I wash in cold, warm ,or hot? Does machine dry make it worse? Should I line dry in the sun? There are so many questions, I just want to do the best for my baby and me...
Also I am thinking it's best to replace my area carpets? I have hard wood floors, should I do a bleach cleaning on them as well?
Thank you for your help

If you can get rid of the carpets easily I'd do it. Ringworm likes dark, warm, moist environments which is why people get athlete's foot so easily. If you can, I would not get new carpets until after she has been cleared of the ringworm though. I have used a bleach solution on my wood floors, but there is a chance it could damage them...
I would wash bedding on the hottest setting the fabric can handle. If you have somewhere you can dry it in the sun that is good, but the dryer (on hot/high setting if possible) would be ok otherwise. Machine drying shouldn't make it worse because it is a dry heat, not moist.

It is possible the ringworm could have come from the outdoor potted plants, ringworm often lives in the soil outdoors.

I can't thank you enough for your advice
! You are basically reassuring me of what I should do to take the proper precautions.
She has a Chlorhexadine concentrate which I dilute with warm water and wash the area every 24 hours, and a Conofite Miconazole nitrate spray also every 24 hours.
I have a cat tree/window perch I built for her that is carpeted. I will definitely replace the carpeting but do you think that is enough? My AC unit is right below this, is it possible this could be an issue? I AM SUCH A WORRY WART!

Can't thank you enough

I'm not sure about the cat tree, I decided not to get one myself since it can't really be disinfected, but if you can vacuum it just in case there is any hair/dander on it and maybe spray it with bleach water? or put it out in the sun for a while?
The a/c could be an issue if it can hold hair or dander, it can hold ringworm spores. If you can I'd vacuum it and remove/replace the filter if there is one, and wipe the outside down with bleach water.
