Just curious. I'm considering changing over completely to Innova or Wellness, and was wondering since these foods have no preservatives, how long would they keep if kept in an airtight container?

Thanks!

They still do contain preservatives...but the natural preservatives aren't as effective. Depending on the company I think the foods that are preserved this way will be okay once the bag is open for 1 - 3 months (don't quote me on that though). As mentioned by the other poster...calling or emailing the company and asking would be your best bet. In this house a bag of food usually never lasts more than a month so its never really been a concern of mine. If you do find out from the company please post an update on what they tell you as Im curious what they will say.

Heard back from the people at Wellness today. The bag will last unopened until the date of expiration, or once opened it will last 3 plus months they say.

I have decided to go with Innova because it is much cheaper then Wellness here in Georgia. Since the cats are loving the Wellness canned food, I'll go with the Innova dry and wellness canned.

Sound good?

I feed my kitties 4 different types of dry food. Wellness is one of them. It is an excellent food. It does cost more money but I feel it is worth it. Wellness gets most of the credit for being one of the first "healthy" all natural cat food. Wellness has been around for about 3 years...and that is about how long this "all natural" healthy cat food trend has been going on. I would also consider "Solid Gold" dry food. My cats love this food also. I mix it 50-50 with the Wellness. Solid Gold has been around for almost 30 years and I think that it has been around about the longest. I have a really small feed store near me. The owner believes that the Innova is not what is advertised as far as quality and perservatives. He claims that the Whole Cat Journal took a sample to a lab to be analyzed....and it was not what the company claims it to be
Is it true? I tried to find this info on the internet and failed. Just giving ya something to think about
Good luck in whatever you decide.

I highly doubt it. I have never subscribed to the WCJ but I have subscribed to the WDJ and they state in the 2002 top dry food issue that they do not conduct lab tests on any of the foods on their list...that it is way beyond the scope of their resources. I would assume the same would hold true for the WCJ's top dry foods since they both had the same publisher. The WCJ now has a new publisher but as far as I am aware they don't even do a top foods report anymore.

Sounds good to me. I also use Innova dry and Wellness, Innova and Eagle Pack mostly for canned food.
