I still can't believe they would have had to die!

Everytime I look at the last 3 of my 6 babies, I think about that! Today, I was out enjoying the cool fall weather and I spent a lot of time loving on Percy and Momma and just being thankful that I brought them into my life when I did! They have been such a joy to me. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Percy was actually scheduled to be PTS *that night* had I not returned for him. The staff thought he was "unfriendly" because he was very shy and would run to the back of the cage when people came around. At first, I was just planning to take Momma Kitty (because I thought Momma's had a harder time finding a home than babies), but then I just couldn't leave the baby behind. As I was walking out the door with Percy that night (who was too young to go to be "fixed" like his momma), one of the shelter workers caught me and said, "I am so glad you are taking that baby...this was his last day."

Here is my baby Percy when he came home that night - weighing 1 pound:

And here is my not so little baby Percy today at just over 4 months old. And "shy" is not how I would describe him today...he is my buddy!

Then...my Momma kitty. She is the most loving momma cat to Percy and she is such a great outdoor kitty. She is one of most affectionate people cats I have ever met and most of the time, she even comes when called.

Momma - skinny (6 pounds) and tired - the day she came home:

And today...plump, healthy, and doing her favorite thing...rollin' in the dirt!

And then, there is my baby Juno. I am not sure how long she had left. She had been at the shelter for awhile and she was one of a SLEW of black cats...many of them kittens even younger than she was. I chose her because when I picked her up, she instantly started purring. When she wasn't being held by someone, she went to sleep in her cage. She was so laid back...even at the shelter.

Here is Juno today:

Thanks for looking at my babies!

Awesome, warm, wonderfully touching stories.

All of my kitties are rescues, too. Five of them I pulled off the streets as kittens: the first litter, at 8 weeks old, was slated to die of poisoning at the hands of some completely heartless neighbors, and the second, at 12 weeks old, was too young to survive a rapidly deepening northern winter. Ralph was starving to death when we broke into an empty apartment and found him.

The first litter, their first night in their very first (and only) home:

The second litter (minus the fourth kitten I caught 11 days later):

Ralph, about a month after his rescue:

Today, they are all as happy, content and healthy as any cat mother could want. I COMPLETELY empathize with your feelings when you look at your kitties.

Aw that is so wonderful!

When my Mom got Pumpkin I don't know that he had very long left there; though the staff loved him. He was just the runt and a bit sickly. He was about a pound at the time but not holding his own body heat. He used to ride around in the staff's pockets at the shelter. He actually rode home in m step-sister's shirt. LOL! He was a preemie we found out. He was so small he liked to curl up on my shoulder to sleep! It took several months for him to be healthy enough for all his shots and neutering. But man he is still a love bug today! He loves to sit in your lap and lick your fingers. He even bathes the dog. My Mom has had to lock him out of her room at night because he keeps her up by nudging into her armpit and kneading it! And he is persistent about it too! But we love that lil nut!

I too completely understand! My Pria was going to be PTS by end of day, along with 5 beautiful males if they weren't taken into a foster home. I took them all, found great homes for all of the boys and I don't know what I'd do without my Pria girl!

There is nothing I love more than happy kitty endings.

When I adopted Holland from the Denver Dumb Friends League she was almost 5 months old and had been at the shelter for 3 months already!! According to her file, she had been brought in with mom and litter as strays, and AFAIK she was the only one of the group left. I don't know their policy, but seeing as how she's a black cat and was nearly out of kittenhood, I have a feeling she wouldn't have been kept much longer... It was meant to be, for sure!

Great stories, it always makes me happy to hear about cats being rescued to go on and live happy healthy lives!

Sweet story... I am so glad you saved them. I love orange & white cats... my very first cat was that color. If I remember right, Juno is getting spayed tomorrow.. I'm sending her lots of good healing vibes and you the peace to get through the wait... she'll be just fine!!
