Cruiser moved to behind the TV & he's been there since early afternoon.

I'm getting ready to feed him with the syringe. I need to get 60 cc into him with this feeding & then tomorrow try for more feedings throughout the day.

Lazlo would accept 3 15cc syringes at a time. He's getting fidgety with 2 now. But I was feeding him 3 - 4x a day. I'm going to have to bump that up now - he's pretty much not eating on his own at all now.

Another member who's had to syringe uses a cat bag to do it. I don't know how difficult it is to feed your Cruiser, but she recommend the Klaw Kontrol bag (available on ebay, though I found a new one cheap on ebay). I haven't had to use it yet. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thank you for the info on the cat bag. He is difficult to syringe feed.

He's behind the TV (seems to be his favorite spot) but I need to feed him. And today I'm aiming for 3 times.

Sorry, meant available on Amazon.

The member is Carolina, and she's got a video up of her syringe feeding either Lucky or Bugsy in a cat bag. Whichever kitty it was got REALLY stressed with the syringe feeding, until she started using the bag. It calmed everyone down, and apparently (if you read the reviews on Amazon, though most people use it for clipping claws) it helps most cats who struggle against pilling, syringe feeding, claw clipping, etc. Obviously there will be the exceptions. it'll help Cruiser.

Thanks for the link...

For the first time since Cruiser has been sick, he wandered into the kitchen when I was getting food down for my other cats. I was very surprised.

I put Cruiser in a separate room & gave him a small amount of canned cat food. Unfortunately he didn't eat it. But maybe it's a sign he's improving? So my daughter & I used the syringe to feed him.

Still waiting to hear from vet if the growth on his neck is cancer.

I picked up several cans of Royal Canin Recovery so we're good for a few days.

Just called the vet that did the biopsy of the lump removed from Cruiser's neck. The results are available but the vet's computer is not working to get the results. They hope to have that fixed shortly.

Am I correct in thinking that if the neck lump comes back non-cancerous that doesn't mean that cancer might be elsewhere.....somewhere in the abdomen for example?

Oh that's just so frustrating! It's been a rough week or so with the vet's office.

I think it's possible the lump could be benign and there's cancer elsewhere... But it could be just something they can't figure out.

Continued and

This is a weird coincidence, but right before they suspected my Eightball had cancer, they also removed a lump from his neck that was benign. Most lumps like that are benign btw.

Sending vibes your way!

The vet called me last evening with the results from the biopsy of the lump removed from Cruiser's neck. The biopsy indicates cancer.

After I heard that I had a difficult time taking in all that the vet was saying. Poorly differentiated. Malignant. Almost normal. Undifferentiated carcinoma. Local. Invasive. Vet mentioned the thyroid.

I asked the vet to please mail me the report.

When I asked if there was anything we could do he said it would spread.

We are to continue the syringe feeding & keep him comfortable.

He is sleeping most of the day except when we syringe feed him.

Even though I suspected cancer the news is still hard to accept.

If Cruiser was walking around a bit & showing interest in his surroundings it would give us some encouragement. But he is sleeping most of the day.

He keeps down the food & water that we give him via syringe so that is a good sign.

Does anyone have any suggestions, advice or personal experience?

How is Cruiser today? His bidy might just be healing is all, and that's why he's in sleep mode. I sure hope so!

I'm not sure how fast cancer spreads in a cat. The lump on his throat was removed but there may be other tumors elsewhere in his body.

I just finished syringe feeding him & he does keep his food down. So that is good. However, he has lost a lot of weight.

He is starting to be less stable when he walks.

I'm afraid I'll have to decide soon when he goes to the vet for the last time.....because what is he getting out of life but sleeping?

Well, I read recently on here some advice...take the three things the cat likes the most. Is it just sitting with you, playing, whatever....and when he gets no enjoyment out of those three things, then start considering it. But if he seems to enjoy your company and such, then it's probably not quite time...Hope that helped...
