Good morning!

This afternoon after work, I'm meeting Rick in town and we're going to run errands. One of our stops will be at a local farm so that we can buy peaches. I will either freeze them, or, if I get brave enough, I may try to can spiced peaches. I have to make three peach pies for our Labor Day picnic on Monday. Rick has requested peach pie for our dessert.

So my question this morning is: What's your favorite way to eat a peach? Do you like them fresh, right off the tree? How about peach cobbler? Or peach pie? Or peach ice cream? Or all of the above?

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Just a regular old peach chilled in the fridge. I have this weird thing about eating warm mushy fruit so any and all fruit I eat must be out of the fridge and super cold. Im not a pie person either but if the peaches are cut right I will eat peach cobbler.

I'd say just a regular peach as well, but not right out of the fridge. I have pretty sensitive teeth, so it needs to sit out for a bit.

I love fresh cold peaches straight out of the fridge, too, but a while back a tried a recipe for peaches pitted and halved, stuffed with mascarpone cheese, honey, walnuts and baked. It was out of this world delicious.

I love peaches and will even eat canned peaches. Favourite is fresh, cut into thick slices with a bit of salt sprinkled on. Of course I wouldn't turn down a bowl of fresh sliced with cream and sugar either, or any preparation..........waiting for the good ones to hit the stores.

Hot peach cobbler!

Dad loved it so much, Mom would make hers in the largest pan she had - the one that could hold a 20lb turkey. And none of it went to waste.

Waist, however...

Oh no. Now I want peaches.
My new favorite dessert is a fruit crumble! Takes only a couple of minutes to make and it's SO good!

I top the pan of fruit with this crumble topping (I've added the ground nuts to the recipe, they make it taste so rich!):

1 cup oats
1 cup ground nuts (half almonds & half pecans is my favorite)
1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup cane sugar
mix together - it will be lumpy and crumbly
sprinkle on sliced/chopped fruit and bake at 350F for 30 minutes
top with whipped cream if you want, but it's not necessary

Almost any fruit works: berries, apples, nectarines. I made an apple and strawberry crumble yesterday; that's what we had in the garden.
Caution: don't use more than 1/4 raspberries/blackberries it will be too seedy, so throw in more strawberries, peaches, apples, blueberries...

I prefer them canned (home canned) and I eat them over a bed of cottage cheese.

I like peaches as they are, room temp, and I take a paring knife and cut off pieces, usually standing over the sink. I hate biting things, so the knife way is the only way.

This summer I've been into peaches and nectarines, and I'm really not much of a fruit person. But if I'm at the store, I'll pick up a peach and smell it, and if it doesn't smell much or at all, put it back, smell a few more, if I can't find one that smells really peachy, then I don't get one. I'd read that it's best to buy peaches by smell rather than by firmness/softness. If they don't smell, they won't taste like much either. But if I do smell a peachy peach, then I'll get one. Gosh, I'm picky about my peaches, aren't I?

I was never a peach person... couldn't stand them growing up. we even had a tree. But a couple years ago, I had a can of them (I know, not the same as fresh, but still), and was itching for something sweet. I have a book on cooking for one person with a recipe for a recipe for fruit cobbler for one. I figured, what the heck, right?

It's the only way I'll eat them.

That sounds awesome! I love a blackberry cobbler with ice cream but it does get seedy. I'm going to have to try this. For the oats can you just use oatmeal?

I can't eat a whole peach because of the fuzzy skin. To me, it's like nails on a chalkboard are to some people...I can't stand it! Now skinned and sliced is another story.

I had a deliciously juicy peach for breakfast this morning and plan to buy some more today. Mmmm, nothing beats fresh, in-season local peaches! I prefer to eat them whole and fresh, but also enjoy canned peaches in a cobbler.

Use 1 cup quick-cooking oats, or use 1/2 cup flour with 1/2 cup long-cooking oats. I made this recipe for my sister who isn't supposed to eat gluten and it worked great.

You can use only long-cooking oats (and no flour), but first put 1/2 cup of it into the blender until it's fine like flour. Made this yesterday and all of us had 2-3 helpings for dessert. Oink!

Any of the above. If you love peach pie, but cannot bake a proper one, Schwann's, the food delivery company has the best I have ever had. YUM!
