Hurricane Update Finally

This is my first post in over a week. We got electricity and phone back Tuesday and internet today. We have major tree damage in our yard. About twenty five foot of an oak tree is laying in our front yard, much debris from pecan tree and a row of wax myrtle trees in laying on the ground. But we had nothing hit the house. Our shingles are still on the roof. In the community where I live in NC, there was major flooding. My neighbors belongings line the sides of the road. Windows and front doors are open trying to dry out the houses. My best friend got 15 inches of water. My husband's sister got 9 1/2. People are devastated. Much prayer is needed. The Salvation Army has a station in every community in our county where they are feeding folks. I grew up here, but this is the worst I have ever seen. Houses here that have never been flooded got flooded in this storm. Some folks lost house and cars. Some have no insurance. Please everyone, if you are a praying person pray for those who have suffered loss in this storm. I am very thankful that there was no loss of life where I live, just property. By the way, our generator would run the small wall air conditioner in the garage where my cats sleep. They were so cool while we sweated with the ceiling fans. Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to update and ask prayer for those who need it.

It's good to hear that you're okay and things are returning to some semblance of normality. Many positive thoughts and for all those affected.

You know, I hadn't seen any posts from you and I wondered what was going on....I hate to say anything though.

Wow, I'm just glad you're OK and seriously hurt through this. Sending good thoughts and that things get cleaned up soon.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts, vibes and prayers. There are still folks without their power. It is a major clean up and people will be a long time recovering. I pray we don't get another hurricane on top of the damage people are already dealing with. We did find out yesterday that we can put all yard debris out by the road and it will be picked up eventually. Hubby has a tractor and a front end loader so he can get most of our trash out there without too having to carry it all by hand or load it on a trailer. We do have two large oak limbs that we have engaged a tree service to clean up, but they are really busy first taking trees off houses. I understand that.
I saw a big truck yesterday that is here rescuing animals. I just gotta love people who take their time and do that job. I hope every misplaced animal will be found and given back to its owner or find a good new home. Thanks again.

I also had no power since last Sunday morning. They just got the power turned on today at 1pm. I really missed the a/c most of all, it was really hot in here. I did spend some time at Russ' home but I did miss my own place as I usually do but there was nothing here, no TV, radio, appliances (all my frozen food was in Russ' freezer) thank goodness I was able to save all the meat I had just bought.

It has certainly been a rough 5 days but other areas in NJ are flooded pretty badly and I feel bad for them. The storm itself wasn't all that bad, they made it sound much worst than it was. I hope all who were in contact with Irene are ok.

Back again after quite a while. So glad the hurricane damage wasn't as bad as everyone thought. Hope that's the last one. We've been lucky here in FL - hope it continues thru the season - Nov. 30.

Oh I am so sorry. There was a lot of damage up this way too. Just too many stories of people's things being destroyed by flooding. Most have their power back now - quite a few around here just got it back yesterday.

for all those affected.
