Mogget's Vet Appointment???

I have a vet appointment scheduled for my 13 week old kitten, Mogget, today. It is just a general check up, plus some dewormer (just in case) and his kitten vaccinations. Due to some miscommunication at work, my paycheck is about $100 short so I am thinking about postponing his appointment 2 more weeks. I thought I'd come here for some advice before doing that.

Mogget is VERY active. He shows absolutely no signs of being sick, and is just a completely happy, fat, active little kitten.

I got Mogget 2 weeks ago from a free to good home ad. He was feral born, and when he was no more than a few weeks old some punks shot him with a BB gun. I don't know all of his story, but the woman who's property he lived on nursed him back to health and then decided to find him and his sisters homes.

The only things that concern me are:
1. The wound on his side has completely healed up, but I have reason to believe he's never been seen by a vet. The wound doesn't seem to bother him.
2. There is a bald spot near the tip of his tail. It was a scab when I got him, and his sister had the same problem on her tail. It hasn't gotten any bigger, but the fur still hasn't grown in. If it was ringworm, I would have gotten it by now.
3. There is dry black discharge coming from his right eye, and some inside of his right nostril. I'll wipe the goo from his eyes, but it comes back. His eyes are bright and clear, and his third eyelids are not out. It's just mysterious eye goo.

Given what I've told you, do you think it would be safe to postpone his vet appointment another 2 weeks or should I take him in today?

Honestly?. If it was my cat l would still take him, even if it was to give me peace of mind. Once you have that you can sleep peacfully knowing Mogget is a healthy happy kitten

I also would suggest taking him to the vet, especially if you have other kitties in your home. He needs to be tested, dewormed, have his wound examined (even if it is healed up) and have just a general check up. Explain to your vet your situation and see if they'll work with you on payment.

Thanks for the quick reply, Rosie and Stephanietx. Mogget is going to see a vet either way, but I was just curious if anyone recognized his minor problems as something that could be major and should be seen by a vet ASAP.

Rent is due today, and with my paycheck being short I need to save all the money I can for gas and food for the next 2 weeks. If I take Mogget in as planned, I'm stuck eating ramen til next payday.

My vet doesn't do payment plans. I've already asked.

When you take her in, maybe there's something that the vet can postpone till another time you can take her in.. vaccinations maybe, or a certain checkup? Talk to the vet and see what they can do for you

Thanks Draco. That seems so simple, but for some reason I hadn't thought of it yet. I suppose I could postpone his vaccinations or something if there is a larger problem that needs to be dealt with. Or maybe my vet will take volunteer work in exchange for payment.

I think I will take him in, just for the peace of mind.

Went to the vet. Other than the possibility of worms (but I already knew that) he's great. The wound healed perfectly, the discharge isn't related to infection, everything that's white is white and pink is pink. Vet gave me a stool sample kit to figure out what kind of worms he has. Now I just gotta wait for him to poo.
