Nutro Max kitten: I just saw some criticism of Nutro but++

I finally got my cat to eat something besides Fancy Feast grilled! And its Nutro Max kitten (wet food). I really read every one of the labels today at PetSmart and I thought Nutro Max kitten seemed pretty darn good...? Can someone correct me if I'm wrong? I'm sorry if this topic has been covered, I'm just trying to find some kind of consensus.
TIA!

You're not wrong, Nutro Max Kitten is pretty good stuff. These two like it, and I'm fine with the ingredients:

"Chicken Broth, Chicken, Turkey, Chicken Liver, Beef Liver, Cod, Ground Rice, Egg Product, Guar Gum, DL-Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Carrageenan, Calcium Carbonate, Taurine, Ferrous Sulfate, Sodium Ascorbate"

Unless you're religious about grain-free or your cat is allergic to egg, I say enjoy those nomnoms!

PS: These two love cycling different foods/flavors, so other similar good affordable ones are Authority Chicken and Liver Kitten and Innova Cat and Kitten food.

I personally would vote the complete opposite, considering Nutro's history. WispyRustle, I am going to send you a PM

Nutro has had recalls, sure, but if you look at the recall registry you'll see just about everyone is on that list. Buy in bulk and feed some cans from a lot already on the market for a few months, and your chances of feeding recalled food are for all practical purposes nil. My 2c anyway.

Unfortunately this is one thing you are probably not going to find. All you can do is read, learn and try and make the best informed decisions you can.

Most people agree that any canned food is much healthier and more "species appropriate" than dry cat food. I also think most people also agree that grains are not really beneficial to cats and so should be avoided as much as possible. Beyond that there are really two major schools of thought it seems. Those who prefer to not use foods with meat based "by-products" as an ingredient but allow their cat to get more of their calories from fat than protein or those that willing to allow meat based by-products as a non-primary ingredient but give their cats more calories from protein than from fat.

To the best of my knowledge there have been no studies to indicate which diet is really superior and it may even depend on the individual cat. The bottom line is that it is a personal choice until someone actually does a study.

I actually can't find anything wrong with the food, but my problem is that it's about trust too. You are trusting in the company to keep your kitty cat safe and between the recalls and the tendency towards secrecy, I don't trust Nutro. Maybe they will turn around and pets will stop dying and getting sick and they will be more willing to give out the apologies and product information that pet parents so need and I will feel confident feeding it to my kitty. But for right now, I don't trust 'em.
