I need suggestions...

So, Holland is seeming very comfortable in the new apartment. The first week or so she would be under the bed for at least an hour after I got home from work. Then for a while she would come out as soon as I walked in the door. Yesterday, I came home and she was out on her own, sitting on the couch!

The problem is, she has completely reverted back to being a nocturnal creature. She has always spent some time on her nighttime activities, but she would at least snuggle with me when I went to bed and would generally leave me alone until she was ready for breakfast. Now, she wants to play late into the night, and when I go to bed she pesters and pesters and pesters me. I've been staying up later with her (and have been sleepy at work because of it ) but I am fairly certain she's up all night. I woke up at 2:00 this morning to her batting a furry mouse all over the apartment. Then the kneading and the headbutts start around 4:00 am and she won't give it up until I get up to feed her. I've tried ignoring her, but she is persistent. Then when I'm up getting ready for work, back under the bed she goes.

Even when I'm home on the weekend, she sleeps under the bed all day, then around 6:00 she's out and ready for HER day to start. I talk to her all day long when I'm home, trying to get her to come out and play so that I can get her schedule somewhat adjusted to mine, but I haven't had any luck. I play with her as soon as I get home, but she's just got energy to spare when I'm ready for bed!

We've moved a couple of times since I adopted her, and I don't remember her ever falling into this behavior/schedule, at least not for this long. Any ideas of how I can get her on a (somewhat) human schedule again? I need my sleep!!

I don't know what to suggest since you said you already play with her at night (which, in theory, should tire her out)... If she bugs you for food at 4AM, maybe feed her when you go to bed?

Or..... Maybe you should just adopt another kitty for her to play with!!

Thanks for the article. Locking her out of my bedroom just isn't an option. I have tried feeding her later in the evening, but it never stops her from waking me up every day for breakfast at the same time.

I wish she would play harder. She's never been a real enthusiastic player, she'll go hard for a few minutes, then take a little catnap then play a bit more. I've always struggled to get her into interactive games with me. I suppose the best solution IS to get her a friend sooner rather than later. I don't know if I'm ready for this...

Once they get to know eachother maybe she will not hide as much. Good luck with your kitty

You are SO ready for another cat! You've been talking about it for months! I think Holland wants an early xmas present of a new sister or brother....

Try an automatic feeder (with a timer) for her breakfast. It's worked wonders around here. You can get ones that keep wet food cool/fresh. Jamie likes dry for breakfast; I've removed the plastic tray inside his and replaced it with a china bowl. We've got one like this, but for one meal only.
