Poo?

I am not sure where to post this.. since I doubt it's health related, I'll post it here.

I found a decent sized poo stain on my bed earlier. I say stain because I did not see the mass chunk. It looked like it was either A: stuck on someone's butt and they sat on the bed. or B: they ate the mass. There was a smear on my dresser next to the stain, which makes me lean towards a messy bummy kitty.

I looked all over my bedroom, under the bed, outside the litter boxes, and even in the main living room.. no solid poo to be found, except in the litter box where it belongs.

I am leaning towards Picasso that did this.. since she had poo stuck on the bottom of her foot yesterday (yes, had lil poo prints on my floor.. do'h!) and someone does not cover all the time.. I am leaning towards Picasso on this one because I KNOW Monet covers, he has for 2 years and he's the digger.

I checked both kittys' rear, and their feet and legs. it was clean, of course, they're serious groomers, so I am sure they'd cleaned up before I saw it. Most likely happened while I was at work today.. I would see the stain when I woke up this morning!

Again, I doubt this is health-related as they're both perfectly normal, eating, playing.. nothing amiss or random or new with them. They never had any litter box issues during the introduction period at all. Nothing's changed in the apartment, the routine's been the same, so it shouldn't be stress in that aspect. I think its a case of "oops, I failed to cover and I made a mess" moment.

I am not really sure what I am asking here.. but maybe some advice on how to prevent this from happening again? How to teach Picasso to cover to prevent stepping in the poo and keep her paws/rear clean?

Perhaps the cat litter is not deep enough? And perhaps you need to scoop more often? What is the consistency of the feces? If it is more on the soft side, and it gets stepped on, it will leave a stain. Have you seen any of your cats "scooting"?
How many litterboxes do you have? One of my cats does not cover after she is done. The others will use the other litterboxes until I scooped the "used" one clean.

Sure it wasn't a stain from a hairball? I've found things that look like that around here, but upon close examination and cleaning, turns out there is hair stuck on it. One of your babies is predominantly black.....

thanks for the responses!

I added more litter. I am not sure how firm the poo is.. I never touched it to see. I scoop twice a day, 2 litter boxes. None of them is scooting or showing any signs of discomfort.

as for hairball, I didn't really look to see if there's hair on it. If you think if it was a hairball, where's the chunk? did they eat it again? ew. lol. I did find a small hairball a few days ago, I thought it was black poo, but saw all the hair in it and realized it was a hairball.

Mommyofmany, You suggested that one of my cats is mostly black.. does that mean black cats has the tendency of having hairballs more?
