Not sure if this is where this thread should go, so if a mod moves it, I'll totally understand!

I've been browsing through the list of adoptable pets on the Animal Rescue League's website and keep coming back to this female torti cat named Scarlett. She sounds like a total sweetheart and has been there since December 2010! I'm just wondering if wanting to save a cat who's been in a shelter for months on end like that is a good enough reason to adopt another cat.

Has anybody else been in this situation? I realize it would be twice the expense, which is a little daunting. Also, McGee does NOT like to share me. This has been made pretty clear whenever I pet my roommate's cats. He doesn't do anything violent, just comes over and meows like crazy and rubs all over me until the other cat moves off.

Is this just a case of "I-want-to-save-them-all"?

I don't see why adopting a cat having been at the shelter that long would be an issue, just make sure to do a proper introduction to your other kitty and I'm sure they will be just fine

Torties are a handful because they are full of attitude! Believe me, I speak from experience here

Absolutely, adopt her!!! If you do the introductions properly and very, very slowly little by little then McGee will adjust. You say, roommate??? So there are more cats living in the home other than McGee? I would make sure your roommate is alright with bringing in another cat if that is the case. Also, make sure you have a "safe" room for the newbie kitty to stay in for a couple of weeks before you even let the other's meet her. Much luck on your decision, it is a big one
