Hello, I have a Male cat 18 years of age. He is wasting away. He pee's everywhere and poops too. when he can poop. Lately he has been trying to eat, but he hasn't been pooping.. and i think there is some sort of infection or blockage.. its making his anus buldge. i love this cat, he is family. I have a vet appt for the 1st. As i dont have any money to take him to the vet , or i would asap. Here are some pictures of what his rear is looking like.

I'm sorry your cat is suffering so much, because surely he is.

Did you talk to the vet about using Care Credit or making payments - whatever you can afford now and the balance on the first? No family or friends from whom you could borrow the money and repay them in a week? Nothing you can sell?

Hopefully your kitty is just seriously constipated... but there could be so many causes for it at that age, and only a vet can really determine what the problem is. I really don't want to look at your cat's anus, but clearly your kitty needs medical attention ASAP.

All of that said... you can safely help your kitty's severe constipation with Miralax (available pretty much everywhere) - 1/4 teaspoon a day. You could alternatively see if your kitty will eat canned pumpkin (available in the supermarket in the baking isle, but get PLAIN pumpkin, even better if organic - NOT SPICED!!!). A normal amount of pumpkin to help kitties is one tablespoon a day... but as it is safe, your kitty would probably need some with each meal. And as your kitty is not eating, you'd have to syringe feed him. You can either use a blender for the wet food you feed him, or you can stop by the vet's office to buy some a/d (I don't know if Petsmart carries it). a/d is meant to be syringe fed, and is for critical care.

If your kitty doesn't eat, you run the risk of him developing fatty liver disease (hepadic lipidosis) and damaging his liver.

Many vibes for your kitty.

In fact, as the Miralax will help soften the stool, and the pumpkin will help regulate it, you may need to use both.

You may also want to consider using some vaseline (or even a cloth and warm water) to gently clean your kitty's bum, then put some neosporin on there to help reduce the risk of (further?) infection from any rips or tears.

I hate to say it, because I know what it has been like to not have the money, but I am terrified for that kitty. I would definitely call the vet tomorrow to see if they can offer you some kind of payment plan. Explain your situation and see if they can do something to help you.
And while I would agree with the recommendations here as a temporary solution, I also agree that this kitty needs medical attention and soon.
Good luck to you and your kitty.

Please take that cat to the vet ASAP.
What a pitiful way to have to live out his Golden Years. Surely the vet will work with you on payments and such. Care Credit is a wonderful way to pay without having to have the money up front...and there is absolutely no interest as long as you pay within the time frame given.

Please keep us updated!

I borrowed 300 bucks from a friend, and i know a good vet he was very expensive, but i also helped him get business and he saw how much spooky meant to me. So he did the full gambit for 295. turns out, his kidney's were were almost gone, the poop was so far stuck in it took a long time to get it all out.. And explained to me this is only buying another couple of weeks. So Spooky and I hung out, we ate food, Well as mush as he could eat, and boy could he still try to eat, yogurt, anything.. we slept together, he knew... he was in pain.. i couldn't ease it.. he suffered in silence. BUt he still didn't give up.. Well he was starting to fall asleep with his eyes open.. the lights were on, i woke him up.. he was fine.. he wasn't drinking any more, he'd try but nothing.. Me understanding chemistry from use, and school. Took him on the 19th when it was proper and i had the 50 bucks for the phenobarbital IV Inject. I was there.. help him until the end.. i was telling spooky i loved him, and it would be over shortly... i asked the vet to push faster, he started to get up but i hugged him, and she slowed down, and he was out, i felt his heart stop. and then the vet checked to see if his heart stopped, i took him with me, wrapped in his favorite blanket, My Mom drove me home so i could bury him, it was raining, IN the car i felt his body go limp.. i knew he was gone.. gone.. I buried him, gave an offering of Tobacco, and flowers.. marked the grave.. and have since recovered. It was the hardest thing i ever had to deal with. Update complete.
