As most of you know I recently took in a foster, Trixie, who went into labor at the shelter. She had 3 kittens there, one which passed and then almost 24 hours later, she had 2 more, another which didn't make it. The remaining 3, Trudy, Tully & Talia were all nursing very well and seemed to be doing great.
Trixie had a rough start and got very weak after giving birth and even had to be syringe fed for a couple of days. She bounced back well though and even adopted 2 three week old orphans, Alice and Abner.
I got home from work today to find Trudy & Tully barely clinging to life. I saw them nursing last night and they seemed fine when I looked in this morning. They were smaller than their sister, Talia, though who already has her eyes open.
Being only 8 days old, I have been through this many times before and knew there was nothing a vet could do at this stage. I got a hot water bottle and tried to warm them up and get some KMR into them but it was to no avail. Little Trudy died in my arms first, and little Tully just took his last breath curled up in the blankets & water bottle on my lap.
I had such high hopes for this litter, but these guys were not meant to be.
I know Alice and Abner didn't push them out because I always saw them nurse together and those 2 are pretty much weaned anyway and for the most part do their own thing. They just failed to thrive...
Rest in peace precious little ones, and know you were very much loved...
