We're thawing out in Texas, it feels SO good! I know everyone here is completely tired of the 100°+ temperatures for so long, but for a couple of weeks I have to say it feels great.

Vancouver Island has had a cold and dark Spring and Summer, daily temps are 40-50°F cooler than here. People are grumpy because there's hardly any sun this year. Nobody wants to think of the cold and rainy Fall and Winter up ahead.

I don't remember the last time I sweated through all my clothes and liked it - certainly not when I lived here, lol!

You know its hot when you are actually cooler riding your motorcycle with as little wind-exposure as possible!

I was quickly reminded yesterday that since the air is so superheated at over 100oF, higher than your body temperature, you actually just feel like you're being heated by a blow-drier and get hotter.

My daughter and I were standing in the backyard at my sister's house and I said, "Come over here, it's even hotter right here!" and she came over and said it was like standing in front of a furnace. Then we realized it was the breeze!

We have those furnace breezes in the desert - I'm soooo thankful that I can be inside, with the a/c.

Last year we still had some cats still living outside, and keeping them cool was a challenge. Gray would lay on the ice containers I put out. We had built a shelter made of the slab insulation, and I would put containers of solid ice inside the shelter, along with water with an ice float in it. This year - they are all inside - and right now at 107 degrees, they are all taking advantage of the cool house.

Siesta time is real important - hope you are able to be inside a cool environment.

Where andhow long are you staying in Texas? You know there are enough of us around the Metroplex to have a pretty good dinner or get-together?

That would be fun but I'm not near your area, and we know how big Texas is! I'm in Houston, traveling between here and rural Central Texas. I'll be back in Texas Oct. or Nov. to sell my late father's cattle anybody want to help?

One of my GFs lives in Texas and she says the heat is horrible. And the drought is worse. They're having a hard time of things right now.

In central PA? Well, last night, we were in the upper 40s! Not funny. We've been having quite a bit of rain, considering that it's August. It's just not supposed to be this way in August. By this time, our grass is supposed to be crunchy on our bare feet and the only things growing are supposed to be weeds. And we're not supposed to be mowing our lawn twice a week. Not in mid-August.

Just to put it in perspective, we had one of our coldest winters ever this past winter. And this isn't our hottest summer. 1980 had a longer string of 100 degree days (by two days), and we're not to the record number of 100 degree days in a summer by quite a ways.

If you check the top 10 hottest summers here, you'll find four of them in the 1950's, when we had a long drought and when many of the reservoir lakes in the area were built. And 1933 and 1934 remain the hottest years on record in the U.S. (depending, of course, on how you measure the temperature).

The drought in the 50's was broken in 1958, I believe, in one weeked. All those lakes filled up many years ahead of projections.

Where in Central Texas are you going to be?

Don't even get me started on the blasted heat!! I have to water my native plants every day just so they won't die...They are natives and dying!! That is just not right!

Do not want to see my water bill coming up...

CAR TEA! I used to make sun tea, but it took forever. If I put a jar in the car right now, I'm sure I'll have tea in ten minutes! By golly, I believe I'll try it!

It was 110° today in San Antonio. 1° short of the all time record
I'd take snow and ice over this!
