Word to the wise: AVOID WALMART. Ohhh my gosh, I made the mistake of going in there an hour ago. Classes start tomorrow so I figured I'd run in real fast and grab a notebook and be on my way. Everyone and their mother was in there. There were lines 20+ people long and they had to open up registers at the jewelry counters and money center. It was kind of funny going in there, because they already made a massive display of water bottles and bread at the front entrance!

Looks like the hurricane is turning in towards me. rather, Southern NJ, but Long Island will get a nice hit of it.. even if it stays at predicted cat. 1, it's scary!

I remember when Hazel hit down around Wilmington in the 50's. When it was over, our dad took us there to see what was left. It wasn't much. Wrightsville Beach was destroyed. There were just a handful of houses left standing there. I hope nobody gets a direct hit. The last one we had was Isabel. There were many houses flooded. Stay safe everyone.

Still raining in Puerto Rico and now there are floods in many cities. It seems things are not as good as I thought, I can't go out because I run the risk of being stuck somehwere because of the floods. I have to go to the vet tomorrow to get Lucas' hills z/d food, I only have two cans left and my Mom is freaking out because she doesn't want me to go get it.

This is crazzyyy...

They said on the news it will continue raining for two more days ! No good...

It's about 160 miles inland and they'll probably just see a lot of flooding. We're originally from DC so this will be our first real hurricane. The last big one down here was in 2003.
He's in Wilmington. He'll probably do whatever they tell him to do, but the FB posting is so typically teenage boy. He's immortal.

I hope everyone down there stays safe. I have to call my GF in Miami and make sure she's ok too. It's supposed to hit Long Island pretty directly, but will hopefully be only a Tropical storm. Rain, rain, rain.

Yup. I'm glad I'm in the beach community at a VERY elevated area. I'm shopping today for extra food since fighting battles at the supermarket is not what I consider fun. These people get a little stressed.

Stay safe everybody in Irene's path! We are to get storms on Sunday according to the Weather Channel. According to our local news, however, we will be getting a deluge. I guess we'll find out.

We went through Agnes back in 1972. We had just recently married, recently had a little baby boy. And we lost everything we had. I never want to go through that again.

PLease take care you all, hurricanes are not fun at all. I hope it goes away and doesn't affect anyone.
Glad to hear you're ok Tammy. If you still have power PR must have a better infrastructure that Guam. I went through 2 typhoons in Guam (one category 4) and they turned the power off for the entire island "as a precaution". The last one I was there for in 2002 my village was without power from Dec 8th until new year's eve.

For anyone that is in the path, make sure everything outside is secure and anything that you can't secure, bring inside. If you're expecting hurricane force winds and heavy rains, have towels ready inside just in case. I've seen the wind force rain through keyholes on doors and through window aircon units. Stay safe everyone.

Please don't go out right now. Can you ration his food so it lasts a little longer? How far is the vets office? Would they even be open if flooding is that bad?

I think I'm stocked up on everything except cat food; which I believe i already have a few weeks of anyway. I have a hair appt on Friday so I'll go to Petsmart then to get more. It's a good 40 minute drive from my house or i'd have done it now. I even got DD a little lantern... DH may not be happy with my "stocking up" but it's done. I got a new flashlight because the ones we already have seem to drain batteries super fast. From the maps it looks like we won't get a direct hit; thank the LORD! But it should be coming down from a cat 2 to 1 at that point. Gah...I'm so dreading this weekend. DH...well nothing rocks him. Military training I guess.

Howdy! I saw the water spout on tv, that was something! I live inland (near RDU), so didn't see it "live." Sounds like (according to DH), the hurricane might be heading toward the Outer Banks now. I guess I better put the news on so I see I have to go out and get supplies.

Now they're saying it's gonna hit Long Island probably at the Nassau Suffolk Border. Eeeeesh. I'm supposed to go to my high school reunion on Saturday into Sunday, upstate. Ugh. I'm probably going to have to cancel, since my husband may get called in and I can't allow my poor daughter to be alone with the boys during a storm of any kind, let alone a hurricane.

I've got to get gas for the generator, and more gallons of water.

Will do!
Good news is that it's shifted a little bit more north of us, but I might end up evacuating anyways because I don't like the looks of those 4 story tall pine trees right next to my window...

It's scheduled to hit us on Sunday (we're on the cusp of the hurricane watch or tropical storm watch areas).

I'm now in the process of gathering up the last of the emergency supplies, just in case.

Stay safe, everyone!

It took a turn for the west and now it's back on track to hit us. I'm going to evacuate tonight, but I have to be super sneaky because once Bowser sees me packing, he'll hide and never come out!

Tammy - I am so relieved to hear you and your cats are alright. I was worried about you. I am praying for anyone here on TCS that is in the path of this hurricane, please stay safe. My DH, Larry, is in Washington, D.C. for a few days and I am very concerned about which way this hurricane is headed too. Again, vibes for everyone in it's path.

It's much more than 3000 this morning. The Outer Banks Alone have almost that during this high tourist season. In Norfolk, our Naval ships have been sent out into the Atlantic to get out of Irene's path.

They are evacuating the Long Island barriers like Fire Island. Yesterday was voluntary, today it becomes mandatory.

I'm a little nervous, but I think it'll be ok up here. I'm praying BIG time for those in The Carolinas, especially North Carolina and Virginia. An earthquake and a hurricane in a week? Come on you guys!! That's it, ok?
