Yep.. I live in Wilmington, NC and it's headed straight for us as well. I've never been through a hurricane before so this should be interesting.

It's quite the experience, that's for sure. I hope you are well prepared. I know we weren't. But Juan just made a last minute turn for us. We went without power for like 4-5 days. We didn't have extra water, batteries or anything. That went for most of the people I know as well. Lets just say when the power came back on, I could hear most of the neighborhood cheering.

I was awake when the eye went over Halifax but slept through the rest of the storm.

I'm not prepared... yet. Classes start in 2 days, so 13,000+ students are now in town that would need to be evacuated as well. My apartment is on a peninsula 2 miles from the beach and half a mile from the river so flooding is pretty much inevitable (luckily we're on the 3rd floor). If it does come, I'll head over to my parents' place 2 hours inland, but the only way out is a 2 lane road that turns into the highway... should be interesting.

It was headed straight for us around noon, but has since veered away. I'm betting it doesnt make US landfall at all - seems to be turning east pretty rapidly.

Hubby and I (and quite a few others, who lived on the Gulf coast for 20 years) were actually looking forward to one. Hubby moved to SC right after Hugo, so he's never experienced one. Hurricane Floyd came up through NJ in '99 and I remember that damaging some property and mild flooding. Planned on picking up a generator and watching the storm. A lot of people here were panicking this afternoon, even with it forecasted 5 days out.

Hope you are still ok Tammy. I have step-family I've never met in PR. I believe they all live inland.

The forecast for us is to get heavy rain and wind on Sunday from this. I'm not looking forward to it. We've had quite a bit of rain the last few weeks already so that kind of bothers me. But the winds aren't thrilling either. Still I'd rather have this than a direct hit. I'm kind of surprised my father hasn't called me trying to get me to come up his way yet.

One of my nephews goes to the UNC. He's down there, his mom is frantic, and he's posting on FB about the coolness of weather, blah blah, blah...

I miss being young and immortal.

I hope you have an easy time of it, We'll be getting some weather from it on Sunday. I'm hoping it's just some big waves, not those winds that knock trees down!!

If they tell you to evacuate, take them seriously!

I live inland from Wilmington / Wrightsville Beach. They are now saying its heading our way and going to move inland. I hope to heck it doesn't do the same thing Fran did and get on the Cape Fear River and come right on into where I live. I don't worry about myself so much, but we didn't have the kitties when Fran went through. Of course, there were some extenuating conditions then, we had had so much rain and the root balls of the trees are so shallow, that's what uprooted so many of them. I think I worry more about it spawning tornados - I'm terrified of tornados!

UNC Chapel Hill, or UNC Wilmington? I'm at UNCW, which is about 5 miles from the beach. They're used to hurricanes though so I'm sure we'll have an evacuation plan. My parents live near UNC Chapel Hill, and that's where I'll be hiding out if it comes in. It shouldn't be too terrible over there. It's about 160 miles inland and they'll probably just see a lot of flooding. We're originally from DC so this will be our first real hurricane. The last big one down here was in 2003.

You would think, but if you weren't here during Hurricane Fran, you should google it. Came very far inland. Not sure how bad it was in Chapel Hill but I'm not that far from there and we were hit pretty bad.

Isabel right?

Ugh, that's the last thing I want, another Isabel. What a mess. No power for 3 days. Trees down everywhere (all over the backyard but nothing on the house).

Not to mention that Jasper's afraid of just about everything- I think a hurricane would put this poor kitty over the edge.

Though if it just gave us a ton of rain and the fire on the NC/VA boarder was put out I'd be happy- no more smoke!

Nice to see someone from around here! I live over in Monkey Junction. Did you see the water spouts in Carolina Beach the other day? And yesterday we had 2 funnel clouds right outside my apartment! Sooo crazy. Luckily I don't have classes on Fridays this semester so I will be leaving town ASAP on Thursday!

Yeah, I've heard some crazy things about Fran. My parents work for Duke, and some of their coworkers were saying they were trapped there for a couple days!

I sat in Houston through Alicia and we were in NC when Fran was coming ashore. We headed west fast and missed the worst of it.

It looks like Dottie may get to enjoy this hurricane, too, since she is leaving for New Hampshire Friday for a niece's wedding.

We are ok here in Añasco, Puerto Rico, but the east side of PR has been seriously affected.

PLease take care you all, hurricanes are not fun at all. I hope it goes away and doesn't affect anyone.

Glad you're safe and sound! Waiting to see if Nova Scotia is gonna catch the tail end of her.
