What is going on between my cats??!! Need cat whisperer!

So here's the deal: I have three cats, all female, one 8 months (Quinne), one 10yrs (Norah), and one 3yrs (Odessa).

Odessa gets annoyed with Quinne's shenanigans, but doesn't seem to really dislike her. Norah plays with Quinne a lot but since she's 10, but when she wants to be mellow, she wants to be mellow without playing (thats means you Quinne). Norah and Odessa hate one another because neither one will back down when challenged, their BS has been going on since I got Norah last year.

Anyhow, the following has happened several times now and I can't figure out what's going on. Odessa will be under her couch or on her couch sleeping minding her own business. Then Quinne pushes her luck with a very tired Norah which turns into a slap/hiss game. All that noise being created wakes Odessa who then promptly comes over to the fight area. Then either she and Norah get into it for a brief minute before she runs back to her corner or her and Quinne get into it (as much as she can get into it with Quinne. Quinne is usually very preceptive with Odessa and knows the difference between Odessa and Norah).

Keep in mind these are not actual cat fights (the only real fights that happen are between Norah and Odessa and those fights don't start off like this). But what's going on? Why does Odessa keep injecting herself into this situation? She doesn't groom or sleep with Quinne so why should Odessa care?

Can any cat whisperers explain it to me?

Odessa is the cat you got first, so she established her territory first, right? So if stuff happens in her territory, she has to investigate it. Especially if that stuff is waking her up out of her nap. How rude, right? I mean, she's the queen of the house! How dare these interlopers disturb her!

And of course your kitten is just getting to be a cat, and asserting her own desires, probably trying to stake out her own adult territory around now. Which annoys Norah, and the fighting annoys Odessa. I'd be willing to bet that the kitten targets Norah because Odessa got annoyed at her invading and Norah seems like an easier, less intimidating target.

Yeah, this isn't serious fighting. It's kitty bickering, like what you'd do if you suddenly had to take in two roommates. It should settle down eventually as they establish their own spots, though if it started to get worse, you could always separate and re-introduce them.

Norah is defiitely a less scary target. Odessa just gives Quinne the creeps! I don't think it will get worse, it only happens every so often, and then a few hours later Norah and Quinne will be playing like nothing had happened. Thank you dear Whisperer of Cats, lol

Haha I too have a 10 year old cat with the same name, but I spell it Noira. She does not like my boy Daku and when they start bickering, Kinks, the alpha cat HAS to investigate, whom Noira doesn't care for much either but Daku is a much easier target as Kinks will beat the crap out of the others if necessary.

And they have all lived together for 7+ years....

Cats are strange.
