I went to look at a kitten today, a gorgeous little black and White girl. I was told she's the runt of the litter. She's 7 weeks old, and her litter mates have all gone already. She hasn't been wormed or flea treated, the lady said she was too young? She has been using a flea comb on her though. She has been let outside, and I thought she's much too young to go outside, and she hasn't had any vaccinations. I wanted her to stay with her mum a bit longer, but I know if I hadn't brought her home, someone else would have been allowed to. She's home with us now, I'm feeding her kitten milk and mushed up kitten food. She's very happy, eating, playing, and she's met Roxy, my gorgeous 4 year old tortie. Roxy yowled at her and our new kitten (Molly) growled back, but they seem ok. That's to be expected.
Any advice? I'm so worried that she left her Mum too soon. She's very feisty and outgoing.
Will she be ok without her Mum?
My b/f has the whole of this week at home to be with her.

Yes, kitties should be left with their mums until 12 weeks old.
But as the person responsible for this situation adopted out all the other siblings, she obviously doesn't care.

Unfortunately, with fleas an no vaccines, and who knows what else, you really need to confine this baby to a bathroom or something until you can get her to a vet, which should be ASAP, and she should not be allowed to interact with your other cats so she doesn't spread any parasites or illness!

At this age, she should be able to use the litter tray, but you may need to help. And you will certainly have to help clean her up. She should be fed many small meals a day, and do expect accidents as she has a small bladder and doesn't necessarily realize she has to go to the bathroom in time to get to the tray.

But thank you for rescuing her, and I'm sure others will chime in with other suggestions!

I just adopted a kitten, Harvey, at 7 and a half weeks. He was very small, but like Laurie said, they were determined to get of all of them as soon as possible.

By 7-8 weeks, they are definitely old enough to get dewormed, have their first set of core vaccinations, and have their stools checked for parasites. Harvey had not seen a vet or had any treatments when we got him... and 3 days later, fleas hatched on his little furry body, which then of course jumped right over to my Crumb's furry little body too!
We were already scheduled for his shots, so when we went, the vet gave us Revolution for both animals -- there is a kitten size for the baby, then full size for the Crumb. Luckily we had no trouble eradicating the flea problems (lucky us!), but I know for sure now there is a treatment option for kittens that little!

Harvey came right out of the gate eating kitten food and with no litter troubles at all. We leave dry food out continuously, so that took care of the small feedings issue. The only issue we have is having to wipe his butt... man, he just can't get the hang of that!
May your Molly (hey, that's MY name!) have the same luck!

Quick FYI for both of you.
I don't know what Revolution is called in the UK (may be Revolution LOL), but it exists. It is a topical treatment for fleas, round worm, heart worm, and ear mites.

HOWEVER.... it is really best to assume that rescue kitties have round worm. And though Revolution treats for the larvae (if I remember correctly) as well as the adult round worm, stool samples do NOT always indicate there are parasites, even when there are. To account for the life cycle of the round worm, at a minimum, a second application of Revolution should be applied after three weeks.
Even better to apply a third one after the next three weeks, just in case. But it takes a minimum of two treatments to eradicate internal parasites.

Hi all, a Molly update!
She is awesome! We have treated her for fleas and worms. She had to have half a worming tablet, and for fleas I had to spray frontline on to some gloves, then stroke the solution on to her coat. I will brush her gently with a flea comb too.
She's eating kitten food and cat milk, and stealing Roxy's biscuits!
Roxy is slowly allowing her to be in closer proximity, but hissing and growling sometimes.
We will get her scheduled in for her vaccinations ASAP.
She's a wonderful kitten, full of energy and very brave, she's had several visitors and people to play with and she's loving all of it!
She loves to snuggle up to one of us and have a nap too :-)

Aww she sound so adorable! HUgs to you for rescuing her!!! I know she is young, but I'm sure she will be ok, I found Lucas when he was just 4 weeks old and he was able to eat well, use the litter box and he is an amazing, good boy. I think the important thing is to get her to the vet and do the FVI and FeLv test, just in case, you need to protect your kitties from Leukemia, it is contagious. I hope she is in perfect health, but I would not let them play or interact until you do the testing, as a precaution.
