A while back I was able to get my cat (Tenacious) off kibble foods. I found Nature's Variety. She did well on that food, but didn't always like the raw. But I have decided to switch her to Blue Wilderness. The reason for this is this brand is more available at "major" pet stores. The Nature's Variety is only available at a small local store. Which is not open on the weekends. Plus we have a bird and we only can get his food at the "major" chance stores. So trying to find a food that I can be able to buy anywhere, but still healthy for her.

She is not taking to this food like I thought she would. I ran out of her Nature's Variety so ran up to Publix to get her some food which was Fancy Feast. She loved that but I know it not good for her. My plan is to switch over to the Blue Wilderness using Fancy Feast. Has anyone be able to get their cats on to Blue Wilderness and how long did it take you. Plus how did you do it. My plan is to mix the two 50/50 then slowly take out the Fancy Feast.

At first my cat didn't like Blue either, not the Wilderness, nor the Spa Select. But now he'll eat anything because I don't give in to his sad eyes. No different than when a child decides she doesn't want to eat what's on her plate at dinner; you just ignore it.

Try the Bistro's flavors though, they are actually shredded meat and veggie chunks and I don't think Any cat could resist that.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm being a little more strict with her. I going to the store Wednesday so I will get some more flavors for her that they make. I hate giving her Fancy Feast.. I will get her moved over the Blue Buffalo.

Friendly speaking friend the change should only be applied after consulting with the vet because these are not the questions which can be given answer by every one.

If her cat is not sick, there is no need to contact a vet. And if she does want a professional opinion, she needs to contact a Feline Nutritionist, not a DVM.

Hiya, Kudos2Fly!

There are several tricks that can be used to help a kitty transition from one food to the next. CatInfo.org has an article (Transitioning) that goes into a lot of detail that you might like, but in the meantime, here's a list of things you can try:

Drip a bit of tuna juice over the new wet food, or sprinkle catnip, Parmesan Cheese, Forti Flora flakes, fish food flakes (weird, but it works), or some crumbled up freeze-dried meat treats (Whole Life's chicken works wonderfully on my kitties) over the food.

Good luck!

I feed my cats just about everything under the sun can wise.

Innova, evolve, authority, nutro complete care and max cat, by nature, newman's own, blue spa select, avoderm, wellness, and all in various flavors.

The only times I've really had issues with them eating their wet is:
1) I bought a huge shipment (36 cans I believe) of 12oz of Wellness Chicken, and they got flavor burnout.

2) Blue Wilderness wet.

So that just tells me right there that the wet formula of Blue Wilderness may be healthy, but its not tasty. I refuse to waste food, so I just put it on my finger and pester em to finish it which they do. There are SOOO many options out there though, I see no reason to fight with them. Petsmart will take back any food you don't want, no questions asked, so I'd just pick a food which is more yumyum and remember to ROTATE FLAVORS now and then too as they like some variety just like we do!

Thanks for the opinions and no there is nothing wrong with her. She is very healthy. Just would like to be a little more flexible with her food. Auntie Crazy thanks for the website. I have read that site before. I did go out and get more Blue Buffalo but more different Flavors. Also I did try the Parmesan Cheese ideal and it worked. :-)

Hi Kim

Thankfully I don't have that problem with any of my 4. Mine get fussy over texture but not brands. I feed a mixed diet of wet and dry kibble. Wet is usually one of the Nutro Natural Choice varieties but I mix it up with other brands as well. Kibble is Nutro Max Indoor chicken. I don't recall feeding Fancy Feast to them but I do recall the ingredients in it. FF was not as bad as all that IIRC.

I don't feel that any of the commercial, or specialty brands are necessarily "bad" for your cat. I just think some might be better than others. Best of luck in this endeavor and keep us posted on your progress

You're welcome. And yay! for Parmesan cheese! Whatever it takes to get our babies to eat right, eh?

This whole thread was EXACTLY my problem, right down to the Blue Wilderness wet! I just gave up on it today after 3 days and gave my cat some Nutro Max wet (which seems pretty decent) and he gobbled it up
*big sigh of relief*
