I had a rebate to try World's Best Cat Litter, so last night, I bought some at Earth Fare. I thought I would try it out on my outdoor kitties first (they live in the garage at night and refuse to potty outside...they come in to the litter box to potty!) since the smell would be out there if I didn't like it.

Well...I put Momma in there and had her scratch around. She was okay with it and she peed. Then I left them.

This morning, I went out to feed them their wet food and let them out for the day and I smelled poop really strongly. I figured it was the new litter not covering the smell. BUT upon closer investigation, I found that one of the two cats had decided that the litter was just not acceptable.

Of course, being that they are strict litter box users, what they did instead was hilarious! I have an old plastic 5 gallon ice cream tub that I use to bring litter outside for their box. It was almost full with their old litter and sitting up on the shelf. Whichever cat had objected to the WBCL had jumped 3 shelves up and pooped in my ice cream bucket of their old litter!
Oh well...can't say they aren't litter trained!

As a side note, I have now mixed the old litter with the new and put a lid on the bucket! LOL

Typical cat!

I made a vet appointment for Jamie one time because I thought he was constipated. The morning of the appointment I had to call and cancel, because he'd done exactly the same thing - found an open bag of "his" litter up on a shelf in the cellar, and used that!

Another time I tried crystal litter (shaped like little balls). When I got home from work, I found that he'd scratched the litter out of his box, about a yard/meter down the hall, and then down the stairs, and had done his business in the empty litter box.

Needless to say, I stopped trying different litters.

Both those stories are hysterical. I can only imagine what was going through the minds of those kitties while addressing the issue.

Hey, at least they made the effort! Probably all mad at you too like, "what was she thinking... ugh!"
I was told a good practice beside mixing when possible, is to just put the new litter right next to the old litterbox, and once they come around to testing out the new litter, then you can ditch the old. *shrugs*
