So... it's official. I love this site. My boyfriend can make fun of me for talking about the "cat forum says!" all he wants! I lurked around for a while, then made my first posts recently. I love having more catmoms and catdads to discuss with!

So, after asking questions the first two threads, I thought I'd do a thread and share about my boys instead!
Crumb, named after R. Crumb the illustrator, and Harvey, named after Harvey Pekar, the writer.

Crumb is a year and 4 months old. He is a grey shorthair tabby who trills instead of meows, unless frightened or angry. We adopted him at 5 months old from a no-kill shelter in NJ where he was asleep at the bottom of a pile of juvenile kittens! Because of this, he loves other cats and enjoys visiting both my and my DB's parent's cats. He is very affectionate and loving toward us, although he has recently developed a fear of strangers, especially male ones. After unsuccessfully trying Feliway, we're hoping the vet can give us some something for his anxiety when we visit on Monday. He loves toy mice, rolls of paper towels, the 2nd highest tier of our cat tree (commonly referred to here at the 'catsle', playing dress up, catnip, and Tuna Temptations.

Harvey is a 3 months (to the day!) orange and white shorthair tabby, who meows to complain about pretty much anything that bothers him... including us sleeping too long! We decided Crumb needed a companion, and we adopted him from a family in NJ because he was raised with kids, dogs, and cats around. We had hoped he would also help with Crumb's stranger anxiety... well, Harvey isn't afraid of anything, even if Crumb is! We call him tiny alpha. He has been quite a mess this past month and a half... having flea eggs hatch on his skin 3 days after we got him, and then a mild eye infection this week. We go for this 2nd combo vaccine Monday! He loves bouncy balls, trying desperately to eat human food, sleeping on the top tier of the catsle, wrestling with Crumb, and purring so loud he vibrates.

And now... in chronological order...

Crumb is chosen!

You got me a KITTEN? No way! (And this is after less than 24 hours!)

"Sorry, girls, we only date models."

I love you, brodder.

I just put up a bunch more photos in the cat pictures area... can you tell I like to take pictures?

Well, I finally made my way over here LOL. I love the background on your babies!

I'm so sorry Crumb suffers from anxiety... you SO can't tell from the pictures! He's playing with his "brodder," on a leash, passed out in a crate...
Is it just with strangers or... ????

And it works out well that you love taking pictures - because many of us do too, and we love looking at pictures of kitties!

Oh - welcome to TCS!

Completely just with strangers. He's a little jumpy around loud noises, but if he hears the doorbell ring, he goes under the bed immediately and hides in the farthest part. If we bring him out after a while to let people see him and pet him, he will physically shiver in my arms. We just returned from a weeklong trip to TN at my parent's house, and he spent most of the trip under the bed in our bedroom, except at night. When he was there in December for Christmas, he was the center of attention, curling up with my dad to watch TV, looking out windows, helping my mom do laundry... it's incredibly bizzare. We tried Feliway when we were there, and Harvey smelled it and fell asleep, while Crumb remained unchanged.
When we go to Dr. Blease at CSA on Monday for Harvey's 2nd round of vaccinations, we're going to ask if there is some sort of anti-anxiety medicine we can give him just when we know company is coming over.

Oh the poor baby! A change like that is strange. Cats are such puzzles sometimes!

All of our babies are scared of strangers - well - they all used to be. But ours were all feral rescues and not socialized, so it was to be expected. Nine years later, Lazlo can still bolt at a loud noise - cough, sneeze, drop something...
But with Crumb having been so cool about everything and now so scared...
Aw, I'm sorry! Poor little guy!

I'd probably just let him hide... maybe with time he'll get over it.

They are adorable! I love their t-shirts! Three of mine just scatter as soon as the doorbell rings. I don't force them out it would just make it worse. I've just accepted the fact that the rest of the world will only see my three eldest kitties in photos I take of them.

I think I could resign myself to that, but I just hate knowing how afraid he is under there! Our apartment is very small, so even under the bed, the guests are only a room away.
I wish I had any idea what could have triggered the fear.

Awwww.....
I don't know if you'll ever know.

I will say... we live in an RV.
Our scaredy cats flee under the bed - probably closer than your room away.
I'm sure they're terrified, but they recover! And over time, some of them have come to work up the courage to come out and watch the scary new people.

Talk to the vet and see what he says.
But don't be surprised if just letting him hide is the suggestion.

Awww! Your kitten looks so much like my older kitten, Percy (Juno is the baby). I have a special place in my heart for orange and white kitties!
