I am planning on getting Phaedra spayed in late September or early October, and I am wondering what kind of questions I should ask my vet about their spaying procedures?

Some questions that I already thought of asking them was if they used gas or injection anesthesia, but I'm not sure which one is better? I also thought of telling them not to give her any vaccinations or shots that aren't needed for the surgery, before she has surgery, during surgery, or while she is recovering. It's just my personal preference that she doesn't have those added onto her body while she is already going through this operation. And was also going to ask if the pain medicine is included in the price, because I personally think it should be

Any others to ask? And if anyone knows about the gas vs injection anesthesia, please let me know!

I am scared
less of her spaying operation and I want to make sure that they are taking good care of my girl

The only questions that come to mind are: what if any blood tests do you require before spading and what, if any, pain meds before/during/after procedure do you recommend.

I was a nervous nelly too when Ritz was spade, though to be fair to myself, Ritz was my first cat ever so I was really operating in the dark. I'd read on these sites to think twice about giving Metacam (potentially life-threatening, albeit rare, liver damage). So although the vet prescribe Metacam post-operative, I elected not to give her to Ritz for this one-time only procedure.

Also, don't be surprised if your cat throws up some time after the procedure or if her/his eyes look different--effects of the anethesia.

Also, Ritz sleeps with me and I did not want her jumping up on to the bed. So I slept on the floor and she curled up beside me. The second night she was fine. Just something to take into consideration.

I understand!
I have to have Juno spayed before Oct. 1 per the adoption agreement from the shelter. All of my other cats were "fixed" prior to the adoption (except Percy and my dog Rosco - but they are BOYS and they did fine). I am a nervous wreck because we have really bonded and I keep thinking the worst.
She has an appt the 8th of September. My vet is REALLY good and she calls the minute the surgery is over and tell you if everything is okay. Definitely ask if they will call you or if you can call them and check on her throughout the day.

My vet does not include pain meds in the price - they are $40 extra if you take them home with you and they are $23 if injected during the surgery. Expensive at my vet, but worth it for my peace of mind since Juno can't tell me when she is hurting.

If your vet uses Ketamine as the anesthesia, ask for a different type of anesthesia. Ask if your kitty will stay overnight or if you can bring her home the same day. Most likely, the kitty won't need pain meds, but if so, ask your vet to NOT give Metacam. There are some potentially deadly side effects to that med.
