I swear, Penny torments me on purpose! I've been having problems with her jumping on the screen by the handle and shifting her body weight to the right in an attempt to open the door for a quick escape. I've been real careful to make sure the screen door is shut real tight so she can't do this. Well, when I got home from school, I opened the french door. Just a few moments ago, Duffy came running in doing one of those excited little tattle-tale kind of dances. I followed him out to the living room, and wouldn't you know, that screen door was open! It must not have been closed too tightly. I didn't even hear Penny do it! Dang it! I've asked my friend to put an eyehook latch on the door when he got a chance. Now I'm going to insist it get put on. Dang it! Well, I'm off to hunt her down. She didn't appear when I looked the first time. Maybe my neighbor saw her go off somewhere. I see he's outside now.

That was a close call. My neighbor started up his garden tractor, and a few minutes later she came a runnin'!

There's no place like home
Don't wait for your friend to install the latch - do it yourself today. If you don't know how, go to a hardware store and ask for them to explain it to you. It is knowledge that you will always use.

Had to put in that latch for my cats also - they are smart enough to jump up on the screen and hit the handle on the way down. Once they figure it out, they will do it over and over again!

Movin' on up!
One of the points that convinced us to buy this house was the security screens. Everybody can look out but they can't get out. In addition to the heavy mesh, there are wrought iron scrollwork and deadboltlocks.

Another plus: Pearl would have gone right through a regular screen. She jumps on the screen, trying to get in and play with the cats.

I would get it taken care of today. The cat knows how to open the door.....and she will do it again very soon. Imagine how you would feel if she got hit by a car, or contacted another cat with a desease?
Just something to think about.

I can't do it today. It will have to wait until my friend gets here.

I solved the problem by closing the french door. She can jump at the glass all she wants. She is not getting out again.

It's a good thing you managed to get her back before she drove you crazy trying to find her. What a smart kitty.

Glad it turned out ok.
Had a chuckle picturing that tractor coming on, and a cat tearing back. Oh, the monsters outside.
