Is this the best idea?

So here's the situation, i'm 7 months pregnant and have a 7-8 year old cat. We used to have another 2 other cats who lived with him but one passed on and the other one my parents kept when my boyfriend and i moved out.

With the baby coming though we know we wont have as much time to spend with him as we have been so we've been thinking about getting a kitten to keep him company. But i'm wondering if this is even a good idea.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what i should do? I dont want my cat to be lonely or feel neglected

Right, the cat feel neglected is what you must avoid.

Some coming parents are worried of problems, jelaousy, perhaps even cat being mean and dangerous to the baby... This is to overdo the worrying, but there IS a corn of truth in it.
The key is to see the cat isnt feel neglected. Like a older bro or sis wouldnt like. Or if there comes a new pet, and you give all your love to this new pet forgetting the resident.

So the classical solution, as mom is nursing the baby, the dad is having a nice while with the cat.... and so on.

A companion, a kitten. A companion may be a very good idea. The problem is, you are thinking about the problem very late... Besides, not sure you want to have someone gallopping madly around while you are first, high preg, and later on - freshly delivered...

If you choose this solution, my suggestion would be a grown up, cat sociale cat (preferably also cat used to small children).
This way you will be fairly sure they will be friends in a short time.

So where to find such a wonder? Nice, healthy, grown up cat who is cat sociale and likes small children?

Some home pet cat who needs a new good home. Look out the Petfinder,
or try the shelters around. Usually they do have lots of different cats, and knows their history. And thus can pick up some suiting candidades.
