Hi we have 2 little kittens that lost there mother..they are both eating well and seemed healthy till today...we were feeding them when we noticed what looks like 2 little holes on there chest or lower neck area...upon closer inspection we notice what looks like a worm in one of the holes...this is in both of the kittens...the vet is closed and we were wondering if we should find a emergency vet hospital or if it is something that will wait till monday...any ideas what this might be would be helpful

thanks
emma

That does sound pretty yucky. If I were you, I'd call a vet emergency clinic in your area and explain what you see to them. They'll be able to tell you if you can wait until Monday. The kittens' age will probably be a factor. I've never heard of anything like this in kittens, but I know there are a number of insects and spiders that lay eggs in animals. Please let us know what you find out.

When I was younger my Aunt had a kitten that had the same problem. Or at least it sounds the same. She took it to the vet and it turned out a fly had laid an egg on the kitten. The vet removed it and in a few months the kitten was fine. Good luck with your kittens.

The kittens both went to the vet today for extraction of all the stuff that was in them. The worms were removed and I was asked if I wanted to see them when I picked the kittens up but it was just too gross. They are on antibiotics for five days.
