President Obama made an unscheduled stop in my town yesterday.

As many of you know, the President is on a three day bus tour of several midwestern states. He started his tour with a town hall meeting in Cannon Falls, MN which is a very quiet little farming community. After he left Cannon Falls, he was going to Iowa. On his way south, he unexpectedly stopped in my town which is another small farming community, and I got to see his motorcade.

This is how it happened:
During the summers when the weather is good I often walk instead of driving to get around. So yesterday afternoon I stopped at my local grocery store to get a couple of frozen food items. I was walking home and when I got by the local post office I noticed several cars were suddenly pulling up beside me at the curb. I looked more closely at these cars and noticed that they were unmarked police cars with their red and blue lights flashing. At the same time I saw a few highway patrol cars pulling into the post office parking lot, and another one blocked off the intersection. All these cars had their lights flashing and there was a sense of urgency. I was waiting at the curb with one other person who was out jogging when the President's motorcade came down the street. It was quite large and impressive, I saw more unmarked cars, two large buses with blacked out windows, an ambulance, and at least 50-60 more highway patrol cars. All of these vechiles had flashing red and blue lights. President Obama was probably in one of the busses, but I couldn't actually see him because the windows were so dark.

I heard the police were scanning people going into a local cafe, so that's where he was going. If I would have known what was happening, I would have planned my time differently, so I would have had more of a chance to actually see him. One thing that was really strange was that we didn't even get local media coverage of this visit.

Just wanted to share

And I would have run to get my bullhorn so I could yell at him from a safe distance! "STOP SPENDING MY MONEY!!!"

Oh, how cool!! I would love to just have a chance to tell him to hang in there. Those motorcades are pretty impressive, aren't they!?

I think you could go to your congressman's office and yell the same thing.

That's pretty cool though, I would have hustled over to the cafe though, I'm kind of nosey like that.

You're yelling at the wrong person. Without getting this moved to IMO, let me just point out that it was the Republicans who refused to so much as close a single corporate-jet tax loophole to help reduce the debt, but instead demanded an agreement to cut only those budget items which hurt the poorest among us... never the wealthy.

They held the whole country hostage to protect their corporate contributors (like a certain oil company that made $5-million-an-hour profits last year and paid NO TAXES AT ALL). They knowingly and deliberately wrecked this country's reputation, creating a financial crisis for which we are all paying in one way or another.

So please, yell at those who are doing the damage -- not one of the very few people in Washington actually working for ordinary people like us.

Okay, so maybe this WILL get moved to IMO.

P.S. -- Lorie, I'm so happy for you! It must have been a great thrill. I watched the town hall he held in Cannon Falls yesterday... a beautiful setting, and an excellent conversation.

Aw, c'mon Carol - some folks just NEED to blame Obama. It's a "feel good" thing for them. If the man walked on water I'm sure there would be criticism from some quarters. But that is human nature.

It would have been exciting to see him.

Absolutely, everyone in my town was so excited by this visit. And it really didn't make any difference whether people supported him or not, and the same goes for Cannon Falls and one other little farming community he stopped in too. I think you have to actually live in one of these little midwestern towns to fully appreciate how quiet and uneventful they are. I tried to buy copies of my local newspaper, and it was sold out everywhere within a couple of hours. This is probably the biggest thing that has ever happened to any of us!!!

BTW Ducman69 I have to agree, if you want to yell at someone, go yell at Congress. I thought the way they behaved was completely irresponsible.

I probably would have been angry at the traffic. Just like a typical NYer.
