Pet Urns/boxes

It is with great difficulty I type this message. My beloved Miss Blackie of approx 9 yrs. passed away on Aug. 11th of sudden heart failure. She had heart disease. I have arranged a private creamation for her and would like to get a special urn or box. I really dont know what I will get from vets office as I made arrangements through them. But I know you can get them online complete with name and picture. Any advise from someone else in my shoes.

An urn or box can be anything that you want it to be really. It all depends on what you want.

I suggest checking out Etsy - lots of people on there make ceramic urns that are very nice, there are also quite a few wooden ones.

There are also a few places that will make jewelry that you can place some of the ashes in, or have stones made from the ashes. Some will create a piece of artwork with the ashes incorporated into it. One of my old friend's mother died, he had some of her ashes mixed into tattoo ink and had a memorial tattoo done. I don't know how sanitary that is, but it's beautiful and he never got an infection or anything from it.

The urns that we've received from the vet all depends on where you get it done. Our dog had to be put down at the emergency vet - they let us choose if we wanted a ceramic urn or a wooden box. We chose the box and it's a lovely little one. The vet where we had one of our old cats cremated at didn't given an option and we got her back in a really odd looking ceramic urn that had little flecks of colour through it - I hate that urn.

from the vets office and decide if I want something different. Also
A friend of ours daughter ordered something special on line. I will have
to get the website, I hear what she rec'd was very nice incorporating the pets name and picture.

Let me start with I am so sorry for your loss I know how devastating it is. My Jasmine went to the bridge on May 9th and is in a beautiful but simple cat shaped black ceramic urn. It is a cat laying on the floor with all four feet tucked under the way she used to sit. Hope this helps.

You should call your vet and ask about places that have urns for you to choose from. When Lynxx died, the vet gave us the name of a place that sold urns. They gave us a brochure to flip through, we found 1 we liked.

When we had Andy euthanized last year we had a couple of options and one was a wooden box with brass nameplate which is what we selected. The box came in a black velvet bag embroidered with "till we meet again on the rainbow bridge". I put all of Andy's special toys, collar, bowl and sweaters in the bag.

For Cleo, our girl we are losing, we will do something very similar. My sister got a box on eBay for one of her pets. There really isn't a right or wrong to it.

For Marsh who passed away last year, the cemetery where he was cremated provided a very nice wooden box for free, I paid for a brass tag.

What was very special to me is emergency vet taking a footprint using a clay disk used for newborn's feet and engraving it. It's a wonderful memory, since he was polydactyl [6 toes].
