Maggie is constipated

My girl Maggie is constipated. I've been keeping an eye on her litter box lately and noticed on Friday that it's been 2 or 3 days since she pooped. I called the vet and the tech told me pumpkin or metamucil. I bought both and started her wth the metamucil friday night. I noticed a little bit of poop in the litter box when I woke up saturday but nothing since . I can't use the pumpkin I bought because it has spices in it. What do you do when this happens to you cat any suggestions? Thanks, btw I will be calling the vet again tomorrow.

I go back to the supermarket and buy the plain pumpkin (in the baking isle, next to the spiced pumpkin). Pumpkin gives her the fiber and the moisture she needs - metamucil does not. Pumpkin is safe and effective. She needs about a tablespoon a day, perhaps more in this case. Some cats will just lick it up, others need it mixed into wet food.

I'd also be mixing water into her wet food.

That's good to know, Nena suffers from constipation and Laxatone doesn't do it anymore.

I hope Maggie gets better soon.

I'm going to try my supermarket again today, they didn't' have it friday I had to take the bus to Edgewater friday to get the pumpkin in Pathmark. I will go to the A&P later but one of the people who work there told me it's seasonal but I'm gonna try anyway. I don't know where else to go.

Mooch won't touch pumpkin or anything like that so I had to give her medication from the vet before. Poor girl had some...umm....(no way to delicately put this?) stuck.

Lazlo won't eat pumpkin either. I use the syringe.

Oh - other people have had that problem with the supermarkets! I'm sorry, I didn't realize they didn't have it in stock. Is there a Walmart near you? They usually have it.

Worst case, order some online. It means you have to wait a few more days, but even if you get a different med from the vet or something, it's great to have on hand and lasts a long time.

I've never had luck getting them to straight up eat the pumpkin, like LDG, I have to syringe it. My vet has also prescribed a prebiotic that I mix in with the pumpkin.

Good luck!

We used to give Callie Miralax, half of a 1/4 teaspoon twice daily to help keep her moving in addition to the pumpkin. We just used the regular powdered Miralax.

Pipsqueak ate the pumpkin for about two days, then totally refused it . So I have been just using 1/2 tsp. of metamucil once a day in the wet food and add water to make it a bit soupy. He licks it all up! I did find plain canned pumpkin at Walmart. And did just see some the other day at Dominick's - a grocery store - they had tons of it. Sure hope Maggie feels better very soon.
