Finally!

Finally, it RAINED today!!!! A long, 8 hour, fast and then soaking rain! Unbelievable, as it really had not rained since May. The temps are also WAY down--79 right now--after being over 100 for 41 days in a row! The creek down the street is rushing with water. It had been dry since early June.

And FINALLY, my new floor is finished. It took them until yesterday. We have been deep cleaning the downstairs all day today. Things look good. Felix has settled down again and Brillo is climbing all over the furniture again. All the cats were happy to have the cat tree back, as it had been in the garage since early June!

I'm planning to do a big garage sale with a friend in October. It's nice to go through EVERYTHING and really weed out things. I'm a minimalist anyway, but I still have managed to fill 3 large boxes with items I don't need or want any more. Hopefully everything will find good homes!

What's going on with everyone else?

I went out to Midland Thursday night and crossed the front just the other side of Sweetwater. Lots of wind, then dust, then rain.

All us Texans need to remember it hasn't rained for a LOOOOOONG time, and wet streets will be VERY slippery!

Hooray for rain and for your floors to be finished!! I hope you're happy with the work.

Our roof was finished yesterday a bit after noon. They started Tuesday. They worked hard! It was more work and time than a usual new roof because they had to tear off the old wood shake (house AND garage), then put down plywood over the beams, and blow in the insulation in the attic, then put a double layer of felt paper stuff (to raise the pitch or something, I forget the reason for it), then finally the shingles and dormers and paint them and the vents black and put back our non-moving but nicely re-painted weathervane. Dorothy and I are happy that the noisy banging is done. She was so scared. Genever wasn't bothered by any of it.

I just booked a photoshoot for next week! A man is proposing to his girlfriend on the beach and wants me to document it all... how cute! I'm so excited!

AimerLee,

That sounds like fun! Hope she accepts the proposal or the whole thing could be AWKWARD, to say the least!

DM, congrats on the new roof! Hopefully will do better than the one we got last year, as we have had 3 leaks so far--one this morning in fact. Sigh. However, sounds like your guys took care to make sure it was done right! Glad Dorothy is no longer scared. It's terrible when you can't help them understand what's happening.

Yep, the roads were slick this morning, but are all clean now--for the moment.

We rec'd a little less than 1/2" here!! I'll take it! We also had lots of clouds today, so it wasn't so hot. Now we just need more rain and less heat!

I got called from work around 3 or so this morning and kept hearing a noise that sounded like the pool was still on. I knew I had set it to go off at midnight so I couldn't understand why I was hearing water slosh around outside but I was too tired and figured I would turn it off in the morning if it was still on. Around 5, DH woke me up to tell me it was raining...I listened and cracked up. The noise I had heard at 3 was rain but I didn't recognize it.

Today was awesome. I desperately hope this is foreshadowing.

Why does rain make your guys streets slippery? That's the first time I've ever heard that

We've had nothing BUT rain andi t's starting to drive me insane, why can't we go a whle 24 hrs WITHOUT it??????

We had plans to go tubing today and it's supposed to rain and thunder and lightning so I doubt we'll be going.

Our new stove and fridge are arriving today and that's about all the excitment that's been happening around here

If it hasn't rained in a while, there is an oil residue that can build up on the street from all the cars as well as dirt. When mixed with the water, it can become quite slippery. In addition, water on the street in itself, makes the road slick. So if you haven't driven on the wet roads in a long time, you tend to forget to slow down. It's the same thing up here in the north, where we get a lot of snow. You would think people would know how to drive in it. But no, with the first couple snows, there are always a lot of accidents because people forget to slow down for the snowy conditions.
Congratulations to all texans for the much needed rain. I hope you get more. I would be more than happy to give you some of ours, we are under a flood watch until monday, for some "lake effect" thunderstorms that may develop today. Lake effect, those are two words that I am NOT ready to hear. Lake effect in winter means tons of snow.

Lol, thanks! Unfortunately I photographed a wedding last year that ended up in divorce, so hopefully my bad luck won't transfer onto this couple!
