Yesterday when we got home, I went to the garage to see Barney. He was way back against the wall and couldn't stand up. He had laid in some urine and feces.
I thought he was dying and scooped him up and we raced to the vet. At first they thought he was coming out of a seizure...but then thoughts turned to FVS. His eyes were going back and forth and his pupils dilated. He kept falling on his side and his head was arched back and to the side. His sugar was over 300. Thats alot for a little guy. His white cells were elevated. His ears were loaded with black gunky wax. His body temp was 95.8. He had been laying on a concrete floor so I attribute some of that to that.
He is on ear drops and wax remover. Clavamox for the high white cell count. He does not want to eat so I am syringing it.
This am he is still falling. I guess FVS can go as long as 10 days. The more I think about it, the more I think he did not have a seizure. He probably couldn't get to the litter box while on the floor. I had a cat with FVS once, but that isn't what you think the minute you see it...you think the worst. He is in a dog crate with his box and food and milk. He does manage to use the box...poor boy. The vet says they see this FVS late summer and spring. And it is also common after URI's. He had a monster URI at the beginning of the month.
Any encouraging words are welcome or experiences with FVS. He prob does have something else going on...whether his ears or residual effects of the URI. I think his sugar probably spiked because of the stress of the FVS.
Thanks guys!
