I wasn't going to even post this because I didn't want to get yelled at for being careless or to call the emergency vet ASAP when nothing seemed too wrong, but I guess my guilty conscience is making me confess. (and I'm not even Catholic!)

2 nights ago, my phone alarm went off at 7PM as always for Dorothy's thyroid pill. Usually I give both hers and Genever's prednisolone at the same time, sometimes I give the pred. later on. The pills are different shapes, and I put them in different treat- Dot's in a Whisker Lickins, G's in a Pill Pocket.

And then I gave Dot's pill to Genever, and realised it as she swallowed it.
I panicked a bit, told BF what I did, and he seemed a little worried but like he tried to hide it. Or maybe he really wasn't worried. He suggested we give her milk so she might throw up.
So I did. She happily lapped it up but didn't puke. She seemed ok the rest of the evening, sometimes playing, sometimes napping. I figured one dose wouldn't hurt too much and it'd be out of her system in 12 hours, but I was still worried. Oh, and I got another methimazole and gave it to Dorothy right after I gave the first one to Genever, and I gave G her pred. pill later on.

So, anyone else ever mix up meds? How bad is it really? I just knew it would happen one day when giving both pills at the same time, but I really hoped it wouldn't, especially since they get them in different treats.

Ok, confession over. I hope my bad meowmy-ness can be forgiven.

Oh you poor thing!! I'm glad you got it off your chest--at last. No one is going to yell at you. I mean when you have more than one animal on medication it can happen. And you wouldn't yell at one of us who mistakenly did this, would you.
My friend had a house full of dogs and cats and she accidentally gave her kitty some of her 102lb dog's meds. I can't remember what the medication was, but it sent her into a panic.
Long story short--the vet said to just keep an eye on her and she should be okay. And she was.
Is Genever okay? I'm sure she is. Don't be so hard on yourself.

At least it was a cat's pill and not a human sleeping pill or something like that.... It happens hun - I am always SO afraid of doing that! Freaks me out.... But rest assured a little methimazole is not going to harm your little girl

OH it's alright
I have done that too in the past. I have accidentally given an antibiotic to another cat
. Really if it is safe for one cat then one little pill acccidentally given to another will be fine..... and no harm done, G-cat is just fine
. She was happy, I am sure, to receive Dot's Whiskers Lickins treat!!!!

Thanks guys.
Genever never did seem off, and about 44 hours later, she is still acting like her normal self. I figured she might get more tired or sluggish maybe, if anything, but even that didn't happen. Well, not that I could tell, I mean, she's a cat, she sleeps.

If it's been 44 hours since she got the wrong pill and nothings happened, she's probably fine. You could always call your vet and just ask if there's anything you should worry about. If there was though, I think you'd have known by now.

Before we knew that Fynn was allergic to duck we feed him some duck based food and he broke out in seborrhea. He was on two pills (an antibiotic and an antihistamine), Sadie was on her does of phenobarbitol. I accidentally switched two of the pills once.

I also used to keep Sadie's pills in the same container as mine for awhile, once I took Sadie's pheno pill - thankfully I didn't give her any of mine, lol.

One thyroid pill with a cat-size dosage isn't going to hurt. We had that happen once. Our dog was taking a 300 mg. thyroid pill daily, and one day I was in a hurry and just put it on top of his food. The neighbors' puppy (shared yard) came in and ate our dog's food, pill and all. The vet said not to worry about it, and the puppy was just a bit hyper for 24 hours.

Yep, I think you're right!
G is fine, she has her yearly vet check-up and rabies shot on Tueday, so I'll mention it to the vet anyway.

Oh you poor thing! As you've already seen, one thyroid pill isn't going to hurt. But I totally get worrying about it!
It's just one of those things that can happen so easily to any of us with more than one cat on medication.

300mg... Wow, I'm a human and only take 25mg. How big is the dog?

88 lbs (Boxer). The puppy (Bernese Mountain Dog) weighed about 30 lbs. (and reached 110 when full grown). Dogs can't absorb thyroid medication as well as humans can, hence the high dose.

I used to pick up the dog's pills when I got mine - same brand, but mine were only 100 mg.

I'm so glad this post is here! I just accidentally gave one of my cats a thyroid pill intended for another cat. I feel better after seeing this post. But I will keep my eye on him!
