Whenever my girl Misty uses the litter box, she doesnt paw the litter around to cover her waste; she stands half in it and paws at the floor for at least 5 minutes (I'm in not exaggerating) not covering anything. It gets to the point where as soon as she's done going, I have to go over and cover it for her because she gets nowhere. She accepts it... For a while. Often times she walks back over to the box she just used after a short period of time and continues pawing at the floor, still trying to cover her waste even though it's already been covered. Even if I cover everything in the box so she'll stop, she doesnt. What do I need to do to stop this? It gets rather annoying to listen to her paw at absolutely nothing. We have two boxes out for our girls and they're cleaned every other day.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

My RB Skinny did it all the time too. I never tried to stop her though. If it got too noisy, I would just call her. She would then come to me and forget all about the box until she needed to go again.
Hope others can give you better advice.

Rosie does it, but she paws at the top of the litterbox, then down the wall. It's always when she does a poop though?.
I just leave her to get on with it, because although it's noisy she obviously needs to feel sure that it's covered in her own way

Leiki does it too, lol. We put a plush mat down underneath the box so it doesn't make any noise.

Not sure you'd be able to stop it. I'm always afraid of anything negative happening around the litterbox that might make them want to stop using it. Genever doesn't paw outside the box, but she does cover her business and then proceeds to spend 5-10 minutes scratching the sides and top of the litterbox...
That's actually the reason I joined this site in the first place, I thought something was wrong with her! But I'ver since learned that different cats have different quirks like that. She also 'buries' her food and 'unburies' her water sometimes. Scratching around the dishes.. I think it's silly, and not harming anything, so I let her do what makes her happy.

Even if my other cat Smokey goes and doesnt cover it, Misty will go over and paw at the floor, I guess thinking she's covering Smokey's. It just drives me up the wall lol
