Help with Cat

Hello everyone,

I really need help with my cat. I've been putting up with his bathroom problems for years, and its taken a turn for the worse, and I am extremely upset.

Also he does not have urinary track infection. He sees the vet (two different ones) at least 3-4 times a year because he needs to fly back and forth between school and home. Its unlikely stress related either as he spends long periods of time 3+ months at each location whereas the problem continues indefinitely.

The problem is

1. He refuses to cover up anything. His pee or his poop, and the smell is ridiculous. He occasionally covers when I am around as he knows I will catch him and force him to cover up, but if I am not around, he will not.

2. He pees in a straight line. I had to buy huge containers to serve as litter boxes because he refuses to squat when peeing. I know that some people consider it marking, but he 100% of the time refuses to squat when using the litter box. He will stand on all fours and shoot back. This is extremely frustrating as it requires a special litterbox, and if he twitches, sometimes the pee will shoot over.

3. Recently, which has prompted me to post this thread is that he has started to urinate and defecate in inappropriate places. He recently did his business in my duffel bag, and just a few minutes ago when I was working on my computer, squatted next to me and took a pee on my backpack. ( I think this last one may do with laziness as the litter box was one room over)

Please help me with this problem. I love my cat dearly and it is driving me insane. If you have ANY suggestions to fix ANY of the problems, please let me know.

Actually, 3+ months may be a long time for you but not to a cat. So please reconsider the stress factor.
Another possibility is that he may not like the cat litter you are using.
You may also need to get him a box that has a cover. Whatever "sprayed" urine will be contained inside.
Finally there are cats that do not cover up at all. I have 1. I've been told it's because she is lazy . But it may be because she is old (15+) or because she is not as submissive as the others.
