This cat is going to drive me nuts. Jasper (10 years old) came to us 6 months ago from a neighbor. He was already very high strung/ nervous. Being moved 2 times didn't help the situation. He spent the first month of his life here hiding in the garage.
He finally started becoming comfortable in here. But then he started spraying. SIGH. It was worse when I had a temp job for the months of April and May- I don't think he liked me working AT ALL. We tried Feliaway, it kind of worked (maybe we didn't give it enough time).
I haven't had time to look for anything else- my kids have been home for the summer. The spraying has been there- but not nearly as bad as it was.
Then we went away for 8 days. SIGH. I decided to let him stay at home with the other 2 cats, and have the neighbor's daughter look in on them. She's done it before, gives her something to do (same age as my dd- 17) and I like someone coming over and checking things out.
We came back home. It was a mess. Jasper sprayed my bed, the bathroom, walls downstairs, a sofa, and some place in the kitchen. I've spent most of the day cleaning up the mess in the bathroom. Jasper was also hiding in our bedroom, and didn't want to even come to anyone for about an hour.
When we left- I had 4 litter boxes scattered throughout the house. I don't know if the girl across the street scooped them out or not. But like I said, I don't think it's a litterbox problem. I think it's a "OMG- my humans have left me and I'm so nervous."
The cat wouldn't leave me alone all the first night we were home.
I don't know. I hate to pay the extra expense, but if we have to go away for another extended period of time, I think we may have to board him. He won't be happy at the vet's office, but at least he won't be home making a mess that takes me a day to clean up, on top of all of the other "junk" that comes up after being on a vacation.
Another idea that I had thought of (but we didn't follow through with). The lady who we got Jasper from is family of our next door neighbors. She's over there at least once a week. Maybe I should have left them a key so she could come over here and "love on" Jasper. Since she was his cat- though he has no clue who she is anymore
