Easy one today....

How long have you had cats? Did you have them as a kid or start as an adult?

I come from a family that adored all animals, cats included. So I don't remember a time when I didn't have a cat in childhood. (Usually many cats) The longest I was without a cat was just a few months. Cats just seem to gravitate to me. Good thing I married a man that loves cats too!

I got my first cat in mid 90s I was a teenager. I always loved cats but between my allergies and my moms we never had any till a stray showed up.

I was in third grade when we got our first cats; they were brothers called Fluff and Puff. And we had cats on and off when I was growing up.

I was 16 when I got married and I had an orange tiger called Peanut Butter. I guess he was the first kitty who was really mine. After he passed away, we didn't have any cats for about ten years or so. Then we got Hydrox (paid $2 for him from one of the neighbor kids). He was an only cat for about ten years, til Whisper and Bootser showed up at our back door, looking for a hand out. And that's pretty much how it all began. Now we have seven of the little kibblekrunchers.

I have always had kitties in my life, as far back as I can remember.

I was a little girl when we got our first cat. So I've been owned by a cat for most of my life. I am right now owned by my very first kitten though.

It's a long strange trip with a kitten-more fun than a barrel of puppies.

I got my very first cat 2 years ago in March. Never regretted a moment since!

I grew up with dogs and small parrots mostly. I also had a guinea pig that lived with me for 7 years when I was a kid (and I was really allergic, but my mom didn't want to take her from me!).

a few of my friends had cats, and watching their cats, I was disgusted. My main thought was "Ew, the cat digs in the litter, and jumps on your counters? Nasty!".. all my life I grew up thinking cats were disgusting, very aloof and mean. and I never wanted one for those reasons.

Then when I moved out of my parents house 3 years ago, I really wanted a pet. I couldn't have a dog, I was allergic to rodents.. birds were too noisy and dusty.. and I thought, why not a cat? They're good apartment companions! I research for nearly a year to make sure I wasn't making a commitment I can't keep. Lo and behold, there's Monet, and my negative thoughts of cats changed completely when I got him. He jumps on the counter? who cares. lol.

Holland is my first cat... I've had her for almost 3 years now. My parents had horses when I was growing up, along with a barn and 2 acres of property. So we always had barn cats around, but they were strictly outdoor.

Me too!! I always thought I "hated" cats when I was growing up. But like you, when I moved into my condo I wanted a pet and didn't want a dog when I had no yard. Wow, did Holland ever turn me into a cat person!!

I've had cats all my life. In fact, I was almost named after the cat my family had when I was born. Her name was Susan, not Fluffy or anything like that.LOL.

Just got my first cat at the age of 23 a few weeks ago. Never had one before since my allergies as a kid were TERRIBLE. Hooray for prescription-strength antihistimines available OTC!

My entire life! A total of 18 (and four temporary fosters). Nine of those have been as an adult, at least partially: Meeko and my darling Esmeralda, who passed away in December of 2009, were adopted when I was 11 and 12, respectively, but Esmeralda lived to 13.5 yrs. and Meeko is still going strong at 16 yrs. so while they were two of my childhood cats, they also moved into my first apartment with me when I was 20 and lived with me until 26 (Essie) and 27.5 and counting (Meeko), so they span both. Phineas, Saskia, Henry, Zinnia, Alethea (my sweet girl, deceased), Oliver, and Ichabod (plus three of the fosters) have all been as an adult.

My mother didn't like any animals, especially cats so I never had cats at home when I was little. My great grandmother got me Mickey a very beautiful very mean orange and white striped cat that ran away. So my great grandmother got me Muffins a calico. I saw them every weekend when I stayed at her house.

Lynxx was the 1st cat I lived with. He was the 1st cat to melt my mother's heart Probably because she was there to rescue him. 9 years later we rescued Luna & brought Midnight home.

We had a cat for a while when I was a kid. He was a stray who adopted us. We lived in a rural town and he was able to come and go as he wished. He always ate and slept with us, though. When we moved to the Chicago area we brought him with us, but with the traffic and everything he had to become an indoor cat. He didn't take it well and got very depressed, so eventually my parents decided to give him to my aunt and uncle who lived on a farm.

The next cat that came into my life was my roommate's. He was her cat, but he adopted me. When I moved in with DH we were catless until Tailer adopted us...then Harvey adopted us...and now Grace. The only cat I've ever made a decision to adopt was Forest. All the other ones have found their way to me.

Since 2004 as an adult, Miagi is my very first cat. We always had dogs and guinea pigs growing up but never cats.
