I saw this story and I wanted to cry.

Sesame Street is a wonderful kids show that makes learning things like numbers and letters and phonics fun.
Yes, I know they have made quaasi-political statements before but those were
always in keeping with the idea that everyone can be friends, no matter how different you are!
Bert & Ernie getting married is a political statement that will make a good portion of the population no longer allow their children to watch this fabulous program. That's no good.

I am almost 40 and I always remember them in twin beds in the same room. Like the Odd Couple or Lucy & Ricky.
If the gay community wants to use Bert & Ernie to show their kids that it's normal and go on the assumption that they are gay - more power to them! Sesame Street's official position is that they are "Best Friends" but obviously couples should be BFFs too.
