I think my kid is scent marking me...and everything else.

My DD is now 19 months old and just growing like crazy. Shes into the typical toddler stuff for the most part. But this one new thing is new to me: she licks her finger and then wipes it on whatever strikes her fancy. often it's her eczema spots. (maybe she's pretending she's putting more cream on? or it feels good?) But sometimes it's Mommy or toys or furniture. So no clue what brought that about; spit exploration I guess?

Either way I've already been covered in enough drool to take a bath in.
Just so long as no one teaches her to give wet-willies yet!!

That's better than what I was thinking when I saw the title! I was imagining her peeing on you and everything else.
Comparatively, a little spit on her finger isn't too bad.

Poor girl with eczema.
I had eczema as a child too. It's so miserable.
From what I remember you're spot on with your assessment of why she puts it on her spots. It makes it feels better. She doesn't understand that getting her spots wet makes the skin dry out and the rashes worse.

And probably it feels different/funny on her finger, so she's doing it to everything!

Sounds familiar! My daughter used to be obsessed with lip balm. She would smear anything and everything on her lips. Peanut butter, her brothers baby food, body cream...you get the idea.

My oldest and youngest sons both have eczema, as do I, and I have doused them in so many creams and prescriptions it's shocking they never did that stuff. Of course girls are more independent, so they probably waited for me to do it for them.

Your DD sounds adorable. I love the toddler years!

She's a hoot! And I'm glad she hasn't figured out how to get out of a diaper yet!! We had one close call...

She's funny when I'm putting her cream on. I give her the lid to the jar to hold and she will pretend she's getting some off that and putting it on. Poor kid. I hope she outgrows it soon!! I have it myself but I only get it from metals. We don't know her trigger yet.

When she figures out how to remove a diaper, here's what I did when faced with that mess...

Take feety pajamas, cut the feet off, and put them onto her backwards (zipper in the back) they can't reach around to unzip!

My oldest son still gets bouts of eczema, he's 13. My youngest outgrew it around age 3. (Thank goodness-it was on his face!!)

I, too, didn't know exactly what you meant in the title by 'scent marking'.... Glad it's just a wet finger.

I had ecxema when I was little too, I don't remember when I grew out of it, but I do remember my mom putting cream on my 'spots'. Itching is no fun.

She gets it on her cheeks, the inside of her wrists, knuckles, one thumb, behind the knees (bad spot), inside of her elbows, and the tops of her feet/ankles. She's had a few tiny patches on the back of her thighs and forearms lately too. It's always a little better in the morning when she hasn't been itching all night. But it's so hard to get her to stop now. Her ped initially said it was related to cradle cap. Even though it's in all those spots my twice daily creaming keeps most of it down so they don't even consider it bad or severe. It's just widespread. I'm almost looking forward to socks/sneaker weather so her feet will improve.

I still have her sleep in a sleep sack so I hope that'll solve the diaper thing for me. She does best in them and I'm hoping it'll keep her in the crib longer too. I'm not ready for a toddler who can escape her bed!!
