It was time today for her annual check up and shots. He said she is in good shape except she has acne under her chin. He told me clean it two times a day with Stridex pads. Does anyone else have any experience with treating acne and what works besides Stridex.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

Do you use plastic dishes? If so, switch to ceramic or even paper plates. The bacteria gets in the scratches of the plastic dishes and then gets the acne going on the chin. If you use ceramic, glass, or metal bowls, clean them with warm soap & water after each use.

But you should use an anti-bacterial soap, and let it sit for a couple minutes and not just instantly wash it off after two seconds like most do. This kills 99.9% of the bacteria and since its saturated it gets into all the pores/scratches.

It might not be the bowl though. It could be related to the food, stress, dental issues, hormonal, etc.
Thanks Ducman69. The vet did mention the feeding dish issue. I told him I use stainless bowls for food and water and keep them both washed clean. So it is not that causing it. For now I am doing what he suggested, which is washing her chin after each feeding with the Stridex pads.

Yes, Hi Barb
. Pipsqueak just recently got chin acne from Hill's C/D dry, something in the ingredients started it. Chin acne is the body's way of releasing wastes through those pours. This can also happen to some cats during shedding season in the Spring and Fall. From what I found out, the sebaceous glands under the chin oversecrete, filling the pores with sebaceous fluid, the pores can become clogged and then the acne erupts. It is a sign to alert you that there are too many wastes building up in the cat's body and the organs of excretion are not controlling it at top efficiency. Yes, it is true it can be caused by plastic dishes, not always the case. Most likely it is the body working to rid itself of some type of waste.
My vet told me to do this and Squeak's acne is clearing up slowly. I use OXY10 acne wash. Benzoil Peroxide. I first use a warm compress to loosen up the gunk. Then wash with the Oxy10. Dry thoroughly. Then saturate a cotton square with Hydrogen Pyroxide and dab all over the chin. I did this everyday for a couple of weeks. Now I am going to every other day. I am slowly taking him off of the C/D also. The chin is getting much better and he is still eating some dry C/D. So either the wash is working or his body is adjusting to the "Corn"
diet now.
Good luck with Mattie at the vet today.

Hannah gets chin acne when she's stressed out. We use stainless steel and ceramic bowls that are washed after every feeding, so we know it's not a dish issue either. We finally pinned it down to stress when we let the Feliway diffuser run out and forgot to change it for 2 weeks. Oops on our part! Changed it and within a few days, no more acne.
