Kind of a spin-off of, "Do you like your name?"

That thread got me thinking about names.

Do you know what your name would have been if you'd been born the opposite sex?

My mom has told me I wouldn't have a name if I would've been a boy. My dad wanted to name a boy Anthony, after him, and my mom hated that idea, thought it would be too confusing, like of someone called and asked for Tony, "Which one?" It's ok though, my parents divorced, and my dad remarried and had 3 boys, the first of which is Tony.

My mom named me when she was barely pregnant. She said she knew I was going to be a girl and had my name picked out. Now I am curious though...

Yes, my parents already had a boy, wanted a girl, so name was going to be Christine. Instead got another boy, so I was Christopher. Had another kid, and this time a girl and so she was named Christine.

Annoying when cuties came over or called asking for Chris, and it was for my younger sister.

I was born 6 weeks early so there weren't ANY names picked out yet LOL.

Although my son (Michael Anthony) would have been Antonia Nicole if he were a girl. With my daughter, we only picked one name, a girls...LOL. (Nicole Gabrielle) It's hard with an Italian last name, kinda, to find fitting names, at least I think so.

I would have been James.

I was actually supposed to be Sara instead of Kara, but two weeks before I was born my mom's good friend had a baby and named her Sara, so my mom changed it up a bit. I'm glad, b/c I like Kara much more than ordinary Sara.

I would have been Leslie. I don't know why, but my parents were so sure that I would be a girl, they never picked out a boy's name. I think my dad came up with my name while my mom was still out from the anesthesia. He named me after Brandon De Wilde, the little boy from the movie Shane.

I would have been Robert Michael.
Personally, I don't mind that my brother got the "Robert" part. I don't think it suits me.

I don't know what I would have been called if I were a boy -- I'll have to ask Mom tomorrow! But I do know what she originally wanted to name me...

Her name is Dorothy, and she's usually called Dorie. My father's name was Raymond, and Ray was one of several things he was called. So my mother wanted to name me...

Dorian Raye.

Get it? Dorie 'n' Ray?

Luckily, my father was at her bedside when they brought in the form on which my name had to be entered, and Mom was still groggy from the delivery. It was a close call, but Papa saved me by choosing names from Aunt Carolyn on his side and Aunt Helen Marie on Mom's side -- hence, Carol Marie. I am eternally grateful!

EDIT: Mom was still up, so I asked: if I'd been a boy, they would have named me Noel David! Noel is just a name they liked, and they did use it for my brother six years later... and David was for my maternal grandfather, whom I adored. A wonderful name!

Even though my parents had come up with both male and female names, they were primarily set on a boy's name as that is what they expected. The doctor insisted I was a boy despite my mother's feelings that I was, indeed, a girl. And, thank goodness as the name they had picked for me had I been a boy was atrocious...Jason Joseph. Bleh!

My younger brothers were saved from that horror, though. They were born Matthew Joseph and Michael James. My youngest brother was Brian before being re-named Michael, but he is much better suited as a Michael anyway. I still remember, though, my parents arguing over the fact that my mom wanted to name him Oliver Henry. Now, I think that name is adorable, but I think he dodged a bullet in the end.

I'm grateful my parents had thought of baby names ahead of time. I was born 9 weeks premature and am frightened by the thought of what I would've wound up with, name-wise, if they had to come up with something on a whim -- especially since they were expecting a boy. Jason Joseph is bad, but who knows what I could have been named! It's a scary thought...

My mother was avoiding really bad Egyptian names. Our father was obsessed with ancient Egypt his whole life. So being Anita Ann is quite ok with me, my twin sister is Anna Arlene

Our older sister was not so lucky. Her name is RA'Nee (that is pronounced Rah-Ha-Knee) It basically translates to long live the sun god Ra. Thank goodness most people mistake it for Renee
We have always called her by her middle name Lisa.

They did not have boy names picked out at all. There are 2 brothers after us though: Joseph Willis (dads name along with maternal grandpas name) and Fredrick Edward (paternal grandfathers name). My little brother Fred gets annoyed when people say Frederick..he is always "there is no e in there thank you" LOL
