Hello all,
My male cat is 11 years old and overweight, he weighs 21 lbs. He doesn't eat much (surprisingly) but he is very lazy. He's always been happy and healthy. For the past few days he's been "off". He wasn't eating at all, would cry when being picked up, and was vomiting.
This morning I took him to the vet and they can't figure out what's wrong. There is a bit of blood in his stool but they said that could be from any number of things. Also, he had a slight fever of 103.2, which they said wasn't that bad for a cat. They gave him some fluids, a shot of penicillin, and sent me home with some antibiotics and said they thought he might have a disc problem but don't know for sure. They said he's getting old and I should just keep my eye on him.
Since coming home, he's been in obvious discomfort when he stands up but he walks fine. He's not happy and has been keeping himself scarce but this could just be because of his vet visit earlier (he hates the car).
So, I'm not sure what to think. Could this be a disc problem? And if it is, what can I do? Is it possible that this will get better?
I'm also wondering if anyone has any other ideas of what could be wrong. The cat has had urine stones in the past but they said his bladder wasn't full and they catheterized him to get a sample and said that was ok. So, any ideas at all would be appreciated.
Thanks!
