My brother's little cat Patches apparently passed away sometime in the last 24 hours.
My brother was sick for a week with diarrhea and vomiting. He finally called the ambulance, which took him to the local hospital. From there he was transferred to Fort Smith. They found him to be infected with Clostridium Difficile, Salmonella, and a kidney stone entirely blocking one ureter. They broke up the kidney stone yesterday with a laser and got the other problems under control.
When he got home this afternoon, he couldn't find Patches, the smallest of his cats. She was the offspring of an outdoor brother and sister (ferals that my brother fed) and had nearly died of an on-going URI which never really cleared up. She would have the occasional flare-up, which was treated with antibiotics. He kept her indoors, and she was his most affectionate cat.
He searched the house and yard, thinking she might have gotten out when his neighbor came in to feed the cats. He finally found her under the bed, gone to the Bridge fairly recently; she was still warmish.
Her two sisters continue on, and they will be a great comfort to him. A terrible thing to come home to, after being so ill.
