My cat Peyton will be 2 years old on September 15th, in the past month he has started peeing outside of his litterbox in one place only. After a vet visit we found out that he has struvite crystals and after quite a bit of research I feel that a raw diet would be what is best for him, I need all the advice. I can get and all suggestions/ideas are welcome. Thanks so much in advance if you have any questions that would assist in answering my question, feel free to post them and I will answer as quickly as possible!

Brandy, is he clear of the crystals already? if not, I would strongly advise to put him on a prescription diet first, then change him to raw.... What is his status right now? Are you working with the vet on this?
You do not want to risk a blockage.... which can be very very dangerous for your kitty.... You want to dissolve those crystals first...

Thank you, yes he is clear on crystals now, we had the last vet apt on Monday 8/1. I just want to do the best thing for him and hopefully prevent it from happening again! We have another vet apt at the end of September which is more or less a follow up.

Great site to get you started. I am starting mine on a bought diet, but not what I would consider commercial from Blue Ridge Beef. Lots of my online friends who feed raw ship in from Hare today as well.

I think until I learn what I'm doing buying a complete mix (I chose the kitten mix) takes some of the pressure off of me to figure out where to source my meats from, what I want to feed, what supplements I want to use. I know it's not rocket science but it is very important!

Mine are "converting" slowly
I guess the best advice I can pass on was given to me. Start slowly and don't jump in too fast - you will only be discouraged and give up. It's a slow process to get your little ones to take to a new diet sometimes just take it slowly.

If you were feeding a dry diet before, the best thing to do would be to switch to a wet diet first while you are researching. This way you don't feel rushed to learn everything (and there is a lot to learn) and your cat will still be benefiting from the moisture rich diet.
