New cat owner trying to avoid behavior problems.

Hey all, first I'd like to say how glad I am I found this site. I have loved cats my entire life but never had one until April of this year and I've been learning a lot on here.

I got a 10 week old cat back in April, she is wonderful and well behaved. I got her spayed at 6 months, she has all her shots and is healthy. Right now she's going through a bit of a rebellious phase but she never gives me any problems. She's an indoor cat, uses her litter box perfectly, eats her meals, drinks lots of water, plays, never scratches furniture, etc. She is just lovely

I come from a large family so since the beginning she got used to 7 of us around her, including a toddler who tortures her but she hangs in there.

Right now I'm in the process of moving to the apartment in the basement of our house. This basement is completely separate from my home (it has a back door, no way to get in from the house) and I will be taking kitty with me. My question is- Would it be ok for my cat to be going back and forth between the basement apartment and the house? I plan on leaving her old litter box here, her old water/food bowls, toys, etc so she has her things when we come here. I have new things for the basement apartment. She's gotten used to being around my family and loves them so I don't want her to stay in the basement forever and not visit them (lol). At the same time, I worry that going back and forth sometimes will cause behavior problems or stress her out.

What do you cat experts recommend? So sorry if this sounds ridiculous or paranoid but I love her! I just want her to be as comfortable as possible

I wish I could answer your question of concern, but here's a thought I thought I'd toss out.. Any way to make a small hole so she can get from the main part of the house and the basement on her own accord? a little kitty door?

Unfortunately that is not possible.

I think that really depends on the cats. My cat lived at my parents for a year before I moved to where I am at now. I take him back to my parents sometimes for a night, or even a week and he is fine. But that's not to say all cats will be comfortable doing that. Once she is settled into your apartment, you can try taking her back there, if she doesn't seem to like it, its probably best to keep her in your place.
