Mike has an interview tomorrow at a small restaurant just down the street from where we live - literally, a five minute walk.

He has been out of serious work for almost a year now, although he was working for a temp agency back in the spring. We really need this right now, he is on welfare but it doesn't give us near enough to pay all of our bills and we're running out of savings.

He's applied for two positions there - cook and server - it would be nice if he got both as it would mean almost fulltime work. Both positions are part time, 1-2 shifts a week. He said that the guy that called him for the interview said that they need someone immediately because their old cook transferred to another location. Mike is definitely qualified for both positions, a little over qualified to be honest, but the interviewer was very impressed with his resume from the sounds of things. Mike is also really itching to get back into a professional kitchen. He has taken so many courses on kitchen safety, hospitality, smart serve, first aid, etc - so he would definitely be a good fit here.

One of the girls that I work with has a friend that works there, she said it's a very tight knit workplace and the best of the three locations to work at.

So can Mike have some of those famous TCS job vibes? His interview is at 1pm tomorrow, I work 6 am to noon and then am babysitting at 1pm for about an hour. After that we're meeting up with a friend of mine from work that's treating us to sushi for my birthday (which was in January, lol), and then Mike got me a comp ticket for the closing night of the play that he's been doing lighting for for the past two weeks. I'll try to pop in either between babysitting and sushi or right after the play to let you know how it went!

I've worked as a cook, back in the days when the cooks at McDonald's actually cooked. It's hard work, but has some real rewards.

I JUST got home, what a long day!

Our babysitting turned from one hour to three and a half hours, so we were half an hour late for dinner. The place we were originally going to go was closed because the owners were on holidays (they open again tomorrow, lol), so we went to the sushi place that was beside it... it was HORRIBLE. I'll post about it in another post - but long story short, we were actually chased out of the restaurant!

I was just getting out of the shower when Mike called me after his interview - he has a second working interview on Tuesday! He has to go in at 11:30, it's the day that they have all you can eat fish and chips, so it's one of their busiest days. They want to see how he moves around the kitchen. He's worked in busy kitchens before, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Keep the vibes coming for Tuesday! I'll post when I get home from work (4pm), he should be home by then since it's only supposed to take about an hour.

I will for sure! I was late posting today because of the busy day - work in the morning, then babysitting, then dinner, then the play, then walking home, lol.

Mike had to go there TWICE today! He went first at 11:30, basically talked to the person in the kitchen for a bit and did some dishes for them (he wasn't asked to, but he asked if it was alright). The guy that did the interview was there working in an office and asked Mike to go back at 4 to meet with the other kitchen guy. He did the same thing and they seemed to be impressed with him.

There is one other person that is coming in tomorrow for that part of their interview, they are going to let Mike know tomorrow whether he got it or not.

Thanks, me too!

We went over our finances today - I get paid two more times before rent is due. It's technically due on the first, but they take cheques until the second and cash them on the third (if it's on a weekend, the Monday). I get paid on the second so that will cover the rent. That means that we can pay our bills and, maybe, prepay some! If Mike does get it, he won't get paid until after the 15th, so he won't have any deductions on his welfare cheque and we will be able to get a bit ahead.

I'm going to be biting my nails until tomorrow!
