My roommate lost his dog, Riley, last night due to a freak accident. He had jumped over the ledge to our driveway and hanged himself, he was on the cable that we hook the dogs up to when they are outside. I feel so weird about everything. It's such a horrific way to find your animal. I didn't see him that way, I had saw him after he was taken down, but it was still very strange. I can't imagine how traumatic it must have been for my other roommates to see him there before he was taken down. The emotions you feel when you see something lifeless like that is just unexplainable. I haven't had to see a death in a very long time, and now that I am older my feelings are so much different than before. He was such a goofy dog, all big and leggy, and I feel so bad for always saying mean things when I'd step in his drool in the kitchen or if he'd get up to me and drool on me, or when he was smelly (I get nauseous when I see or touch saliva, and my nose is very sensitive to dogs smell, it's weird) I just hope he knew despite what I said to him, I didn't really hate him, and I just got frustrated at the drool. The night before my roommate gave him a bath and I washed his bandanna in the sink and dried it and he got brushed and all handsome, and had a night to snuggle up with him. It was like we got him ready for his death. I hope he at least had a good night with him. It's heartbreaking.
