weird freaky things going on with our phones

Today was the fifth strange incident and I thought I should really be writing these down. I've jotted down the facts below, I hope they are readable. I don't have an explanation for what's going on!


#1 cordless phone is on its dock in bedroom
blue dial on phone lights up and red light blinks which signals a incoming call
but there is no ringing
picked up phone - dial tone
hung up the phone, dial was black
husband is coming around the bed and the dial lights up blue for the second time
and the red light blinks, but no ringing
dial tone again when picked up


#2 my daughter and I watching tv in living room
cordless phone on its dock in bedroom (~9 ft. away)
dock suddenly speaks with loud robot woman voice:
"MESSAGE RECEIVED"
(for a second I thought there was a woman in our bedroom!)
we immediately muted the tv
the phone did it again with same loud voice:
"MESSAGE RECEIVED"
have never heard that option!
number blinks if there's a message then you press play to hear it
if no message is left, still doesn't say that
it has never before said "message received"


#3 I'm talking to sister on bedroom's cordless phone
first thing in the morning
other phone in kitchen starts ringing
but it's the same line


#4 I'm talking to sister on cordless phone from bedroom
her voice keeps cutting out
gets worse and worse until I can only hear every other word
then we get disconnected
one of us calls the other back but it's
repeated again and again, a half-dozen times
are worried because we're about to have a conference call with attorney
(regarding our mother's care since our father died)
conference call lasted 40 minutes with NO PHONE PROBLEMS at all
reported problems to Telus
Telus repair man came and worked outside
came to the door and asked me about the problems
said he checked everything and could find nothing at all wrong with the phone line


#5 I'm sitting at restaurant with daughter
asked her to check that her cell phone is on
she checks and says, "it was off" and turns it on
cell phone suddenly announces in speaker mode in loud robot woman voice:
"MESSAGE RECEIVED"
daughter starts punching buttons to try and turn off the loud voice
the cell phone display reads
message
message
message
message
message
message
message
message
all the way down
and again, loud robot woman announces:
"MESSAGE RECEIVED"
our daughter does not text or use the cell to talk to friends
that's about to change when school starts next month but still now
it is an emergency phone only for travel to and from school
no one has the cell phone number except my husband and I
she's never used the speaker feature
sometimes telemarketers do call her number
but she's had the phone for 2years
it has never talked
has never said "message received"

If it isn't a faulty phone, I would agree with that. Have you been praying for something or someone?

Yosemite I agree 100% I got that early on into this post! either your dad is coming through for your mom or someones recently departed. That sounds WAY to unreal to be anything else.

Maybe be open to the stuff going on and talk aloud...Thats my personal opinion of what -I- would do

I thought maybe it was the phone, too, until it happened on our daughter's cell today. That's a completely different phone, different number, different carrier (Solo Mobile).

I should add that after the conference call, I had the same problems again (my sister and I were trying to discuss what the attorney had said) and we had to hang up and I reported the problem.

First, I'd call your closest neighbors and ask them if they're having reception issues with their phones.. landlines and cell. If no issues, then I would look more into this Paranormal Spirit.

As suggested, talk out loud. Take note of the times the phone states message received and such. if you have a tape recorder, talk and ask questions while the recorder's recording.. then play it back and see if a spirit talked into it (First, tell them what the recorder is, and speak into the microphone). Give them time to respond.

I used to go on paranormal investigations with my sister, so I really believe there's somethin!

Maybe whatever is going on with your phone, is the same thing that keeps happening with my dvd player. It turns on by itself when no one is near it, or the remote. Sometimes the dvd part opens by itself when no one is near it, or the remote. Only happens late at night.

Give me the creeps. If it had been only one phone, sure... but the fact that happened on the extension line, as a text msg and cell phone by voice.... plain weird. I have seen weird stuff.... I'd say you have an urgent message waiting - I say don't hang up the phone next time and see what happens.

While I agree that maybe you shouldn't hang up the phone next time, I'm going to ask you to be very careful. Definitely talk to your neighbors to see if they're having similar issues.

ETA: Do you still have the little manual that came with your phone? I'd check that to see if there's something funky going on that might be explained in your manual. Sometimes when batteries are low, for example, phones act weird. That wouldn't explain your daughter's cell phone acting the same way, though.

I watch way too much Supernatural....your part about your sister's voice cutting out gives me the creeps.

The next time the voice says "Message Received", why don't you ask, "What is the message that you received??" Ask it right into the phone since it's happening on your phones.

It is a very difficult time for my birth family. Our mother (as some of you might know since I talk about it a lot) is a horribly cruel abusive person who lacks empathy. I believe she is probably bi-polar, too. My siblings and I lived in hell during our childhood; we were abused in just about every way possible. Our oldest sister Linda, the one I've been talking to on the phone, saved all of our lives, some more than once, and "took the bullet" of the abuse for us whenever she could. Now she is fighting for her life against a very aggressive cancer which was diagnosed about the time our father died.

Our father's Will left everything to our mother, which was no surprise because he always said that it's for their care in old age, and if anything is left after they are both gone, it will be divided among the kids.

The twist is one greedy sibling wants "the inheritance" NOW, and this sibling wants ALL OF IT. Sibling wants to leave mother "penniless" and let Medicaid take care of her. Sibling has been stealing everything possible, selling whatever, lying... Sibling even tried to talk mother into paying for an attorney to sue herself.

It has been a horrible fight because sibling talked our mother into signing a disclaimer which gave the kids some of the assets. All of us have given them back into a trust for our mother's care EXCEPT this one sibling. It's been extremely difficult trying to carry out our father's wishes.

My sister and I would love nothing more than to take everything and give it to ourselves and our siblings, who deserve it, after all the abuse we went though. It's very possible there will be nothing left if our mother lives long enough. BUT that's not the right thing to do so we aren't doing that. We are trying to honor our father's wishes.

Wow Cat, that's freaking bizarre. BTW, if you don't have the phone manual, you can probably find it online and download it. I would ask the neighbors, and take a look at the manual. But the fact that it happened on your daughter's cellphone is just too.... freaking bizarre!

Maybe if your praying for the same thing(peace within the siblings or sister to get better/be painless) that prayer(message) has been received? I personally could not honor those wishes with the issues you had growing up. I am not saying take everything and shes in the street but I would talk to a lawyer about and think of options for her as you may relive the abuse at this point.

I dug out the manual for the cordless bedroom phone - it's a GE model 27998. I read over the entire manual (it's a big piece of paper printed on both sides that folds like a map) and NOWHERE does it say anything about "message received." According to the manual, the only time the answering machine talks (without pushing buttons) is to give the "leave a message" speech to a person calling, unless you change it which I never have. The manual says that the number (of messages) will flash when there's a new message, but that's it.

My daughter and I looked at her cell phone again and there were two text messages listed as coming in at the same time at 8:36 yesterday morning. But the messages are empty. (The robot woman voice was at about 9:40 a.m.).

I called Solo Mobile and told the woman there about the "message received" woman's voice. She looked up some stuff and then said she was confused. She even went and talked to somebody and came back and said, "your (daughter's) phone does not have that feature - we have no idea how that could have happened." I asked her if two text messages had come in that morning and she said no, the only call or text or anything yesterday was a call at 12:43 and that was true since my husband did call us on the cell at that time.

But the phone shows 2 texts coming in that morning.

I'll talk to the neighbors as I see them... but...

I don't even begin to know what to say about this. Other than the fact that I have goosebumps again. I don't get it.

I'm so sorry this Sibling seems to have inherited your mother's lack of empathy. I hope your lawyer is able to get control over her. And your sister is always in my nightly thoughts.

And yes, I tend to agree that this sounds like it could be some kind of message from beyond... partly because I've had strange things happen with the phone, too. But in the interest of scientific skepticism, I wonder if the next steps might be to (a) look online for discussions of these particular models of phones, just to see if anyone else has had similar experiences with one or both of them; and (b) contact the manufacturer(s) of the phones and find out whether they have some "potential" features built into their innards... features that are supposed to be switched off on these models, but switched on in higher-end models (with the same chassis, but different cases). If so, maybe electromagnetic fields or radio transmissions or something is capable of activating them periodically...?

Or it could be God saying, "Enough praying already! Message received!" :-)

Carol, thank you for keeping Linda in your thoughts. I'm not sure if finding out about hidden switches would change anything, when I think about it. Why would these switches be turning on now?

The 5 incidents have been over the past 19 months, that's why I thought it could all be just a coincidence until yesterday. The robot woman voice was the exact same one on two different phones (daughter's cell is a LG Rumour). And we were on the other side of town in a restaurant.

Nothing has happened (yet) when I'm by myself, all have been with either or both my husband and daughter but I seem to be the common denominator.

Could it be something your cats are touching when/if they walk across the phone?

Our answering machine has been messed up a few times. Happens when Luna or Midnight step on the buttons, (they use the bookshelf the phone/answer machine sits on) in order to get into/out of the window.

Not sure that would explain why it happened to her daughters cellphone when they weren't even home.

It certainly is weird, creepy...but kind of cool in a way.

Just a thought - interference from something else entirely. Cordless phones can pick up odd things and so can cell phones. Depending where you are, could be airport tower, truck dispatch office, and if you are far enough out in the boonies, odd bits from logging camps.

My own phone story isn't quite as dramatic until just before it was resolved. Phoned the phone company over and over about phantom rings. Phone would ring once or maybe twice, but wouldn't register on call display. They came out and checed everyting from the pole to the phone, nada!! One night it was raining, and the phone rang several times, no one there, nothing on call display; additionally,I killed THREE phones during that time. Just happened to look out the kitchen window and saw sparks flying and arcing around the connection. Called again, and asked them if the pole connection was supposed to shoot sparks and arc in the ran. Got a rather stunned silence followed by a 'No, it isn't". Someone was out the next morning, and the real problem was their line where it connected to the house line on the pole - it was, to use the repairman's word, rotten and he had to put in several feet of new line to fix the thing. Oh, and the last phone I got?? Still working after 10 years, so that wasnt me either, but the bad line
