Hi
I have about 13 cats outside of my house, 90% spay already
Cats where there when I boight the house 4 years ago
Now I am unenployed and things are getting difficulty (kids going back to school & etc etc)
Used to buy dry food from costco/Bjs and wallmart when promotional prices
my question... is there a place where I could buy bulk 25lbs bags?
Where could I get dry food for better prices?
I want to keep feeding those poors cats
Thanks

What brand are you feeding them now? You don't want to go too cheap (like grocery store/dollar store generic) or they'll become scrawny and sickly (IME). I find Purina Cat Chow to be a good balance, and my ferals do well on it. At Sam's Club it's under $12 for 18.5 pounds, but I don't know about the prices at BJ's or CostCo. CostCo's store brand, Kirkland, is high-quality and not too expensive. . .around $15 for 25 pounds, I'm told. If that's really the price and it really is a 25-pound bag, that's cheaper per pound than the Cat Chow.

Buying the largest bag is ALWAYS cheaper per pound (unless the smaller bags are on sale). Sometimes the small bags cost 3 times as much per pound! It is a bigger expenditure up front, but you can really save a lot in the long run.

Call up petstores/farm stores if you have any. I used to go to a petstore that had buy 12 get 13th free(petco does this but this was a private small family operation) Coupons from the sunday paper(look up sunday coupon preview) and buy papers from dollar store if you need more then a few other coupons for your house otherwise ebay for coupons.

If things get better black friday petsmart has good sales on the cat chow with gift card inside(be sure to see the experation date of the gift card as its only a few months)

Hi there, Petsmart has good deals sometimes on big bags of dry food from friskies and even their brand sophisticat. At this point with your unfortunate situation, I'm happy that you still are concerned for the cats and want to continue feeding them. In my opinion, even if the food is cheap, it's better than not eating at all. Hope things get better for you soon.

I would go with Costco. Cheap in price but not cheap in quality.

I would go with the Costco brand. Their adult maintenance is AWESOME, my cats did very well on it. The ingredients are really only chicken and rice. We moved to an area without a Costco and we are still trying to find a food they will do as well on. We are currently feeding Diamond Lamb and Rice Indoor Cat, which has similar ingredients.

Otherwise Sam's Club's food is really good also. That is what we are currently feeding our stray/feral cats.

Good luck!!

it is good to know that costco is a good quality, I would say 80% of the time I used costco brand

See if there are some local feral cat rescue groups/TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) groups in the area who can help with getting the last few cats neutered and spayed.

Good luck!

If you have a Farm and Fleet near you, you can pick their brand for very reasonable. And they sell Purina and other cheap dry cat food. It really doesn't matter what dry brand you feed them, don't worry about that. They are feral cats and will eat anything you generously can afford. Costco is too expensive since you have lost your job. I am sorry too about that. You are kind to want to still feed them. Seriously, it does not matter what brand and you can switch brands around too, whatever is on sale and you can afford.

I feed my ferals Kirkland from Coscto. Switched recently because it is good quality and cheap. Also, I am always rescuing ferals and when I get too many on the property they fight and get territorial, so I put a free ad in the paper for "free barn cats, good mousers" and get a lot of calls. You really need to weed out about half the people but you do get good people who have land and barns and would be glad to take a few of those cats. If you could get the numbers down and get them spayed and neutered it would seem more manageable. It might take some of the stress off.
