So, it's August in Texas. Not an ordinary hot, dry August but a BLAZING HOT DROUGHT STRICKEN AUGUST! It is REALLY bad!

I've been waiting since February to have my hardwood floors replaced downstairs. First it was to be April, then the guys showed in June. It was supposed to be done early July. They never showed. I finally called another company last week and Voila! the floor guy called yesterday and said they'd be here today.

They showed up! It's 93 degrees at 10 am with projected high of 107-108 the next three days. I have to play "pet roulette" with the cats outside, the dogs inside to keep everyone the happiest (the cats have been spending their time under shrubs in the backyard all summer). On top of that, my front door will be opened/closed literally a couple of thousand times over the next few days, as they take each board outside to saw it to fit. UGH UGH UGH. I can't even imagine what the electric bill will be.

Then the lawn guys show up! ARGH! So I'm currently in my little 12 X 12 office with 3 desks set up, my daughter, two dogs, and three cats. Felix, my former feral, is "feralized" and is crying and pacing. I can't wait until the lawn guys leave so I can put the kitties outside.

On a bright note, this should be completed in 3 days. I'll then hire someone to deep clean my entire house, and finally, after almost 3 years of battle with flooring, it will be done! We will go to court in September, to let a judge settle our case with the original installers, who did the job incorrectly, and then walked off the job.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Wow that does sound like chaos! It's good it's only 3 days though, you'll all get through it ok and get settled back in the house soon. Good luck!

We're getting our roof replaced next week, and it's going to take all week because they have to rip off the old wood shake and put plywood down and everything. Completely new roof. I really really hope it goes well and they don't find too many 'extras' they have to add to the job.

Oh man! I have been watching on the news how hot it is there and Kansas City had 111 today! It was 95 here last week, and let me just say....I did not do very good!

Everything seems to hit at once.

But won't it be nice to have beautiful floors again?

Keep cool, friend!

They got very little done today. They will surely be here the rest of the week, if not part of next. However, they worked quietly and kept the door closed as much as possible.

Brillo panicked as I took her downstairs this afternoon. She scratched a hole in my shirt and put a couple of gashes in my side. Ziggy was "chill" thru it all, I just hope he doesn't start peeing as he did when they were here in June for demolition. I started his prozac back after they were here in June, and am anxious to wean him off of it again as soon as they're finished. He keeps a calm exterior, but is kind of nervous on the inside, I guess.

Thanks for the support. It's 106 right now! Hot hot hot!

Just think of how nice those floors are going to look when everything is finished. I can't imagine being in that heat....we were all complaining when our temps went into the 90s here in PA. My GF lives in Texas and they're having a bad time of it; she said last night that her temp was around 110...I can't imagine it.

Good luck with your furkids. It will be over. And your flooring will look great!

Oh if it's that hot for you imagine the poor guys doing the work, that would be brutal!

It will be worth it in the end though!

The floor guys are actually enjoying working here. They are smart--they measure several boards at a time, the assistant goes out and makes the cuts and then brings them all back in and they are placed on the floor. It stays pretty cool in the house, especially with the ceiling fans. They are very happy they aren't doing "new construction" as those houses don't usually have the A/C working when they do the installation.

Poor Felix. He cried and cried last night. I finally sprayed Feliway and refilled the diffusers and he settled down. I woke up at 1 am and he was snuggled up on my chest. I've had him for 6 years and he's never even slept upstairs, much less ON me. This morning he's crying again. He doesn't like how the furniture is all moved around, and I suppose the odors are different too.

Oh well, a few more days and things will get back to normal! We're in for another hot one today!
