Putting clothes on cats!

So yesterday I was at the store to get some things and at the pet section, I see dog bandanna's I wanted to buy one, but I didn't want to do it because I don't know if my mom will allow me to buy one with her money. Now I want buy clothes to see what it will look like on her like little dresses and things to see how a diva she is.

But long time ago I bought this Elephant head thing for Francis, but he didn't like it. lol They have ties though. I don't know if my sister will but like a bow or something for Salma( BTW she's out of the bathroom now and Vinnie and Francis in her bedroom. Really I have no idea if they are in the bathroom or bedroom)

So has anyone attempted to but like little ties and clothes for your cats? I know this is sounds too hardcore, but it was just a thought. lol

I've only known of one cat who didn't mind being dressed in clothes, my childhood pet Kitty-Cat.

When I was two years old I was followed home by a kitten from the house of a friendly woman neighbor. (I used to hang around her house a lot and play with her cats and kittens, and the nice woman would feed me homemade bread and pickles. ) I was a neglected and abused kid, and her home was a safe refuge. I named the kitten Kitty-Cat. My father let me keep her because she became a great mouser but she was never allowed indoors.

She used to let me dress her in doll clothes and bonnets, and she'd lie down in the doll carriage and I'd push her around. She'd even let me cover her with a blanket - keep in mind this was in the heat of Texas!

Kitty-Cat was my constant companion and a loving presence in my life, I think she knew I needed her and that's why she adopted me. Thanks for the good memories of my sweet Kitty-Cat! She's been at the Bridge for 36 years now and I still miss her!

I have two shirts for Bowser that were given to me as jokes. I only put them on him for a few laughs then take it off because he rolls around on the floor and looks pathetic in it hahaha. I also had a very tolerant cat when I was younger, named Puddy. I was a really crafty kid, and at age 3 or 4 I was so proud of the outfit I made for him out of some old fabric my grandma gave me. I wasn't allowed to sew, so I ended up gluing the fabric to poor Puddy and showing my parents. They weren't too thrilled, but Puddy was a good sport about it

Here's what happens when I put clothes on Smudge. It's a dog halloween costume, but he's kind of a big boy, LOL!

^Haha smudge looks mad. ><

I would like to dress Misa up on Halloween. Maybe she'll be a princess. lol I wouldn't do this if she was a boy.

I feel kinda bad for the kitties who are forced to wear clothes in the name of cuteness (for longer than a short photoshoot). I understand if they need them (Sphynxes for example and other thin coated breeds, specially in winter). I did buy 2 pink camouflage winter jackets 1,5 years ago because they were in major sale, and tried them on for the kitties. They were only large enough for baby Luna and Tomu.. Tomu was the only one who tolerated it at all, and the hood didn't bother him because of his folded ears But none of mine need clothes so I gave the other one to a friend's chihuahua (it was too large for the dog though xD) and the other to another friend's Angora.

Last weekend in a cat show it was incredibly hot: 700 cats+their owners+ audience in a hall so you can imagine it, temperature outside +28C which is very high for this country (studies says we Finns are most content when it's +14C), and there were several cats with clothes on (mostly Orientals and few Abys). I felt so bad for them. In the Persian 'section' almost everyone had a little cage fan, even I felt I could have needed one over there!

This reminds me of the two little girls who I used to babysit when I was about 12. They had a big, fluffy grey and white cat named Sammy (male). He was so tolerant and loved the girls that he let them put pink doll dresses and hats on him and push him around in a doll carriage. He looked so embarrassed and annoyed but he would sit there and wait until they took the clothes off, then he'd take off.

I think its cute for pictures sake but not to wear all the time.

Mooch has a scarf she will wear; but she doesn't like the hats. Even the ones with ear holes. I've never tried any dresses or things like that on my 2 current kitties. I used to dress up 2 of my cats when I was a kid; they both hated it.

I dress my cats up for the holidays. Lynxx gave us about 10 minutes to get the pictures, then he'd fight to get the costumes off. Luna hates it she'll fight and bite, it's very hard getting 1 good picture with her. Midnight will put up with it because he wants the Temptation he knows he gets, when we're done taking pictures.

When I was just 4 years old, I had a little indoor/outdoor kitten named Chester who was my first pet ever. I used to dress him up in doll clothers and bonnets and push him around in my doll buggy. Apparently Chester hated this because he was always jumping out of the buggy and hiding in the bushes...and I was always finding him and putting him right back in.
Unforunately, Chester never reached his first birthday; he was hit by a car and died later of his injuries.

I tried a few times not with my current cats because I never had any luck with clothes on cats. I tried dressing up Winkymy first cat in a santa t-shirt. She just fell over frozen. Tried with a couple other cats and one would move but crawled. I felt SO bad for them so I didn't do it again. They looked so pathetic

I've only put hats and decorative collars on Monet:

"Come closer.. I can't quite claw you for this..."

He was about 5 months old in this halloween pic.

Fred had a cute little straw hat with a red band that he would let me put on him and he would wear it for hours. He decided he did not like it any more and chewed it up. I got him a doll fedora, and he loved it. He looked very sporty in it.
Scooter likes to sit in my cab, so I looked on e-Bay for one of those old fashioned taxi driver hats for a doll. They had one, but it was waaaay out of my price range.

I just remembered that back when Kuura was still a 'teenager' he had an identity crisis because he was too cute and Utu was teasing him because of it. This lead to a short period where Kuura tried to look tough and wore a spiked collar. Does that count as clothing?

(Yes, I'm obviously kidding. He wore it for few pics and didn't like it..)

I know my cat Sid, would certainly show his disapproval if I even went
near him with cat-sized clothes, although I know he would look extremely
handsome!
The cats in my signature were painted by my husband (so no dressing-up
was required and no resulting scratches and a happy Sid)

My cats are like your Sid. They would not stand for it . I also have to say your husband is a great artist !

Draco, I just love the Halloween picture; that is adorable!

I never thought about dressing up any of our kids. I think the only one who might have tolerated would have been Banshee because she put up with everything, including our little grandchildren. The other cats would gang up and figure out ways to get back at us, I'm sure. I wouldn't be comfortable sleeping at night, wondering when they were going to do something!

haha I try to dress mine... It usually fails.

Joey in his halloween hat

My moms kitty Chablis in a St Patricks Day bowtie

Kahlua giving me a death stare in a halloween hat. And Joey very angry in the background.(sorry for the bad pic)

Kahlua in her pirate bandana.

My old roommates cat Keiko in a cosplay wig lol

Thanks for the compliment!

I should have said that my husband 'only' paints the faces! (they are portraits of our friends' cats ) but I knit the jumper fronts which are then
combined with the heads using collage techniques!

Beryl, do you and your husband sell these well-dressed cats in some form? They're wonderful! So much personality...

You are very welcome. When I have enough posts and if you are still around will you make my signature? I love yours. Thank you for explaining about you and your husbands art. I think it is great !

I agree with you about her artwork. I also love you have a cat named Clyde. The first cat of my youth was named Clyde.

I've only ever tried to put clothes on Nora. I bought a couple cute shirts in the dollar section at Target. As soon as they are put on her, she turns into a paraplegic. She acts like her back legs don't work, and she drags herself around by her front claws. It is the funniest thing, but I learned my lesson and no longer put clothes on my cats. LOL

I'm so glad. I really dislike the dressing up of cats for the entertainment of humans.

My vet tech uses this technique to get her cats to be still for nail-clipping. Since they lose all their bones if you put a harness or clothing on them, that's what she does, gets their nails clipped real quick!

I would never put clothes on my cats. They are not human kids and are not meant to wear clothes. Not to mention, if I tried to put clothes on my cats, I would pay dearly

When I was a kid, I had a very tolerant cat. I put my dolls hats on her and she'd walk around like that. I have a picture somewhere of her in a pink beret my mother had crocheted for my dolls.

I do dress my dogs up for various holidays and my Maltese has more sweaters than me for the winter.

I recently read about a Cat Fashion Show at the Algonquin Hotel.

There are definitely some... unique outfits there...

I must admit though, some of the cats were really adorable in their outfits.
